So we continue to have starving, homeless, and diseased people in huge segments of the earth's population. We have the resources available, but the profit motive will not allow for their distribution.
Well typed. As the saying goes "Cash is King"

this is the point. it's not that the solution isn't there; it's that the problem generates a lot of income for some people. howard lyman call this the golden rule: 'thems that makes the gold, makes the rules.'

admittedly, the 'mass' production approach has given many people some things more cheaply, but there is a cost for this: the books, after all, have to be balanced at the end of the year.

Sometimes people feel a little overwhelmed on where and what to do.

There are two things that you can do to dramitically change your life and the worlds.

1. Stop eating animal products.

2. Meditate.

Take these two simple steps and the ripple effect of a better world will be manifested.

You can eat veggies all your life if you want, just dont try to make other people eat just that.

uncleadam,

bigg isn't trying to make everyone vegetarian (he doesn't have the time to do this - don't think anyone does). he has merely put forth the conjecture that one of the ways to improve the world situation is to meditate (there seems to be some solid scientific evidence for this if you follow the links i have provided earlier) and the other is to stop eating animal products for which there is very valid evidence in terms of

A nutrition (he has provided some of this, but there is a lot more)
B environment (again there is a lot more on this that has been researched over 4 decades)
C ethical (some people feel this is getting preachy, but some don't)

he put forth these ideas in light of his initial statement "Many people wonder what they could do to really benefit themselves and the world". many people do wonder about this and bigg is only making 2 suggesstions that can be backed up quite substantially.

i am actually more concerned with your last sentence:

P.S.
You dont know what your missing, BBQ Ribs, Double Wopper with Bacon, A McRib sandwitch MmmmmπŸ˜€

are you trying to lure a good vegetarian to the other side through enticing advertising? πŸ˜€

Hi Prad,

Me again, with a question for you...are you vegetarian for medical or ethical reasons? Or both?

hey charlie! glad to see you here too πŸ™‚

i became a lacto-ovo vegetarian in 1972 purely for health reasons because i learned about the dangers of a meat based diet which i was brought up on. i had no idea about the environmental consequences and i didn't care about the ethical concerns. my rationale was that if i stop eating meat it's not going to change the world for anyone or any creature, so i'll just do it for myself.

after my son was born, i rexamined the situation and in 1990 became a strict vegetarian (no dairy, eggs, fish, honey etc) as well as a vegan (no leather, silk etc) over a couple of years. i learned about the environmental impact and was astonished. i also rethought the ethics and became an advocate of animal rights - an easy inclusion, since i already had considerable experience with human rights (both political and educational).

so the short answer is your third choice, but i wanted to let you know, in my usual lenghty way, that it was a process rather than a sudden choice πŸ˜€

Hi Prad,
I admire your solidarity, it's not my choice but I would never try to sway you. Having said that would you not admit that the biggest medical concern with a meat based diet is fast foods and additives, preservatives etc. A natural meat with none of the above eaten in moderation is not "deadly". Again I'm only speaking from a medical standpoint and not trying to get you to eat itπŸ™„
I think it is a problem with the entire food industry too much "fast food", go down any grocery store aisle and you'll see what I mean.

you are right that organic is better than fast food - though you'll get fast food advocates arguing that too πŸ˜€

a 'natural' meat diet is definitely better than the fast food equivalent, but it is not as natural as people think it is. i'll be presenting the argument supporting this later on.

ps hope your keyboard has recovered - i don't see any typing errors that you were concerned about πŸ˜€

Hi Prad,
πŸ™„No, just being a bit more careful with my typing. Perhaps I should have been a little more clear about the meat. Let's say meat you raise and slaughter yourself. And for that matter fruits, nuts and vegetables you raise yourself. I would grant you that what is advertised in stores is not as natural as what people think.

Enjoying our conversation BTW.

the information i will present (and it is readily available) deals with any animal proteins and the consequences it has on our biology because they do not digest properly. certainly raising your own 'meat' will not have the same environmental impact and does not lead to the horrendous conditions that mass agriculture inflicts on animals, but it still doesn't get around the nutritional dilemma though it does lessen it somewhat because of the lack of drugs etc.

i haven't started this yet, because i haven't had the time. hope you'll tune in and join the discussion when it happens.

now for a very serious question - just how are you going to clean your keyboard? i have been trying to figure this out, but i can't see a solution for stuff that get's in between the keys and oozes menacingly onto the circuitry πŸ™

I myself used to be a vegetarian for years. Because of medical reasons (yes!) I was advised to start eating meat again. I still support the necessity of protecting animals from exploitation and giving them a life that is in accordance with their natural needs.

You don't necessarily need to be a vegetarian to support the need of change in factory farming in order to give animals a better life.

In my view also Christians should be in favour of this. The Bible says that we should take care of the creation. The Bible also says that animals are our brothers. In factory farming we are certainly not taking care of business as God intended ....... far from ...

Funny thing is that I use to eat those things and now the smell and site is disgusting. Take away all the add ons and Yuk ;-)

How can one try to make anyone eat anything?

The choice is yours. My goal is to make you aware that those advertisments you are seeing and believing are not in your best interest.

Have fun!

I am glad you enjoyed it.

I am curious why share this with us?

Is it to justify?

Have fun!
