It's got to be psychological, that I think "you can pot this it's easy", but as I go to take the shot my subcioncious says "but it's a colour, you can't pot those, you're no good" and sends a signal to my right arm to twitch causing me not just to miss but to miss spectacularly (at which point I look at the point of my cue in an accusing manner, while glancing to see how many people saw just how bad the shot was). As for the "white in off" phenominon, that's due to little imps under the table with magnets. They also decide that we're not good enough to get that shot and manover the white down the nearest hole.
Have you played snooker - its a far more frustrating game by far, infact I had to stop playing as it used to wind me up so much that I wanted to bash people around the head with my cue - obviously this disturbed me somewhat!
Why can you pot a yellow in any pocket, from any angle, and from any distance but you can not pot a black when it is over the p ...[text shortened]... of your life does the white go in off? Just of the thought of it is annoying me!!!!!!!

Good one Freak!I also enjoy pool and snooker. Not alot of people play snooker around here though,so we are stuck with pool.A friend and myself used to play for money in clubs.(we were young and stupid)Those games used to get very serious.I can still recall our most remarkable defeats and victories. Some nights we would walk out of there without a cent.Other evenings we creamed it.I think confidence has a lot to do with how you play.we also experienced what we used to refer to as "the zone".We normally entered "the zone"after about 3 beers. We just coulnt miss.Unfortunately "the zone" only lasted another 4 beers or so.then it was time to quit.Unfortunately after 7 beers no one felt like quitting😛
Originally posted by Dr. BrainI always found that the zone for me generally came half way through the 4th pint, but by the time I had finished that pint it was lost - the desire for more beer was always greater than the desire to stay in the zone.

If you want to clear up at pool, play snooker for 2 hours first. When you come off a table that big with balls that small, and come to a pool table everything is an easy shot.
That said, the only time I've played pool for money was when there's been a disagreement as to who's 20p it was on the table, so we've played for it. However, concidering these were biker bars there was probably a whole lot more to be lost than the contents of my wallet..

I think it's a whole lot more interesting than baseball on tv.
Try this sometime: watch 1 hour of golf on tv and keep track of the number of times someone hits a ball, then do the same for baseball (including fouls, if you like).
If a telecast of a golf match seems to have more action, it is because the coverage is edited. They don't show you the tedium of players walking from hole to hole. They only show you what they want. In baseball, you see every second of the game.
The dynamics of golf are much different than baseball. Golf is a gradual accumulation. There are seldom any "pivotal" moments that decide the course of the game. You don't have the tension of a bases loaded situation, or the sudden euphoria of a grand slam.
Watching golf on TV is a totally passive experience. Player "x" either makes a good shot, or he doesn't. The viewer has no role, other than to observe it. Baseball is a much more active experience. The viewer can always second guess the decisions of the manager. For example, he can say, "I would have had so-and-so pinch hit in that situation." There are many such instances where the viewer could have an opinion on the handling of the game. Then the question arises as to how the game might have turned out differently if the viewer had a way to implement those decisions.

I think I know how a true golf fan will reply to your post:
Commentator(Whispering, irritating the hell out of me)
"Woods on the 17th a short par 3.He is asking for the 3 iron.........(long silence heavy breathing heard).......no....he has decided on the 5 iron."
True fan watching TV:"I would have taken the 4 iron.IDIOT!!"
Commentator(not whispering anymore):"Beautiful swing.......(long silence heavy breathing heard)..........its short!!....ball in the water.....oh noooo!!!Woods has handed Els the title on a platter."
True fan to friend/wife/dog:"See I told you"
Golf definitely doesnt do it for me on the telly.I also fall asleep when they show bowls.....
There are seldom any "pivotal" moments...It could be viewed that in golf ever shot is a pivitol moment, because golf is a game that isn't necessarily won, it is just as often lost by 1 bad shot.
Baseball is a much more active experience. The viewer can always second guess the decisions of the manager
I can see how it is less so, but in golf the viewer can double guess the choice of club, the type of shot the player tried to play and where he tried to land it...
Yes golf has as much inactivity as baseball, with the players walking from hole to hole, but on TV (as you say) you don't have to watch these bits becaus ethey take you to the next shot that is taking place (or took place 2 minutes before). You can't do this with televised baseball because what's there si the whole game.
If you to watch golf you can see the action without high powered binoculars, because the players are 2 meters away not 100.
I can't believe I'm defending watching golf because I don't find it thrilling either, but I find baseball at least as equally dull. I'm sure baseball is a fine game, but I don't know anything about it. If however I knew the players, the managers, why that guy had moved from there to there, why if he misses this next shot your team will be religated (do you have beaseball leagues the same as soccer?) THEN I would probably find it fascinating. As with any sport or activity, the more you follow it & the more you know about it the better it is to watch, and if you play it then you get even more of a feel for what's going on.
So, back to snooker. Who finds that interesting to watch on TV...?
Originally posted by belgianfreakI like to watch snooker on the TV. Golf just seems a mess on the TV to be honest the action is everywhere so it is impossible to get into it as there is no real focus, it seems that most of the people in the running have never been herd of and are at best rather unintresting people. Also I find the commentators on golf do tend to talk a lot of tosh most of the time, that patronising whisper as they talk about hours of practice and precision - why cant they just say "well he just hit it as hard as he could" or "he spanked that one" or "that was lucky" - I could relate to this a lot more as these are the kind of things I would talk about if I was playing golf with my mates.
Did anyone else here about the outcry over a woman who has been invited to play in a professional tournamanet. Some of the male golfers are saying they will not play - are they scared she will not come last? They were interviewing amature golfers on the radio saying how terrible is was and acting like it was the end of the world! Are black golfers still banned on some golf courses? I am sure this is the case - you have to wonder why the media does not just go for the jugular over this!

one evening I was about to switch off the telly and ended up standing in front of it for about ten minutes, then moved back to the couch for another hour watching........Darts!
I couldnt believe it.I was enthralled.it was quite exciting.Maybe it was just the beer.I love sports where the participants are allowed a beer while playing.
Snooker is not that bad on TV.Sometimes I even enjoy it.Better than Days of our lives or The young and the restless.........

And no pivotal moments. Ever see a player hole a 20 footer to get a share of the lead and then puts it 3 feet from the pin in the playoff hole to win the championship?
As promised...my score after 18 holes...wait for it...102...27 points.
ya, nothing special...but picture it. 17th hole, 165 to the pin over the water. Bunkers line the back of the green. The Lung decides on a 6 iron. There's a slight breeze blowin towards me. Starts it out a little to the left...the ball arcs and straightens...pitches dead in line with the pin about 10 feet short...bounces...HITS THE PIN...DEFLECTS...and lands about 4 feet short. Needless to say I 2 putt but that doesn't really matter cos...I LOVE GOLF!
