Ah, thanks for the warning, yeah the gears are placed different if it's 5 or 6 gears (or more...god...) i.e.
5 gear:
135
24R
6 Gear (Usually):
R-135
246
Could be an issue thinking you're in reverse when you're really in 6th....
R 1 3 5
...2 4

yeah, im pretty cautious about pushing the clutch down all the way now. The first time I drove stick I didn't have the clutch down all the way and I couldn't understand why it wasn't shifting (I was in second or third). 🙂
I got pretty good with not stalling by the end, even if it started to sputter i was able to save it and keep it from stalling. The ...[text shortened]... utch is going to hit at different places - and the fact that I'll be nervous doesn't help.
Two things for you to think about. If you were worried about whether you were in R or 6th gear, it won't really be a secret to you. If you are truly in R, the car will roll backward as you hit the accelerater. However, if you were in top gear, the car would immediately stall. No car can run in top gear without patterning up through the lower gears. You could strat in second gear, or possibly 3rd gear on flat ground, but nothing higher.
The second thing for you to think about....Don't issue any challenges to the other valet attendants....you cannot win that one...at least not yet! Good luck.

I'm gonna be a valet. I'm not even 18 until June, but I'm going to be driving other peoples $100,000+ cars (It's at a country club...) and I'm pretty terrible with manual, just practiced on my friends today (only second time I've driven one) and it took me a couple of tries to keep from stalling. Would you trust me in your Benz?
One time though, these people came in with a pretty generic car. Later on, some other people came with the same car. Well, a couple hours after that, I ended up giving the wrong car to the wrong people. They actually drove away in it and were gone for about a half an hour. The real owners came out while they were gone and asked for their car. When I drove the other one up, they told me it wasn't theirs. Kind of a bad situation. The first people pulled back into the lot as I was busy explaining myself to the second group. Embarrassing, but it all worked out well in the end.

No, not at all - just an observation.
Quick question, do exmployees need to present their employers with their social security card or just a color copy of it?
Originally posted by cmsMasterThe trick is to put the car in gear, and very slowly let the clutch out (do not hit the gas) until you feel it "grab." You'll quickly get used to it that way. Or drive the car uphill, and practice holding the car in place with the clutch only. Don't do the second one in a car that you can't afford to replace the clutch. There are some cars where this is not possible - Porsche, Ferrari, Honda that some jackass put a racing clutch in, etc. Those you have to stall a lot or hope like hell you don't put it through a wall, until you get used to them.
