I have driven standards for years but I went to Scotland and driving the Euro version was like having 3 left feet in a dance contest. Then when you toss in the fact that the side of the road you drive on over there is different, and don't even get me started on the turnabouts or roundabouts or whatever they call them. I drove for one day, turned the car in and took cabs from then on out.
When you get the hang of a manual, there's no turning back 🙂.
Well I just got off work - was pretty good. I actually didn't have to drive a manual today, I had an opportunity but gave it to my boss since the owner staring at me - I probably should've just taken it though. Definitely a lot of nice cars, but it's not exactly like you have time to enjoy them, especially when you're nervous and trying to figure out how to turn it on - there are a lor more push button start cars than I realized. But it's still fun to get to drive BMWs, Caddys, Jags, Mercedes, Acuras, Lexus', Infinitys, etc. Made me feel like a spoiled kid on "My Super Sweet 16."
One more observation - the lock switch on BMWs is in the absolute most inconvenient place.

Originally posted by shortcircuitYeah, I think it's complete bullcrap - but I'm getting $7.50/hr. and all I have to do is park expensive cars, so I won't complain about it. If I notice I'm getting shorted on tips I'll just hold some of what I get and not pool it. 😛
That bites...you can do twice the work of your co-workers and they still get to share in your tips.
Haha, right now I'm actually the one screwing people over, because I collect far fewer cars than my coworkers (I don't know which car belongs to which person yet...) which means less tips.

I don't quite get what you mean. On the car I was driving today though you really had to force it to the left to get it into reverse, which made me nervous that I was going to break something. 😕
I also had a problem telling which gear I was in - i.e. 1st vs. 3rd.
Everything from Cadillac, my favorite, Benz, BMW, Honda 2000, Mazda Miata, suped up Honda civics, everything.
Similar job to what you are doing now.
And I'll tell you one thing, which you already noticed.
American and Japanese Cars have gears in different locations. 1st in Japanese is like 3rd in American.
It becomes a problem when you are too familiar with one car, ie. you drive an American car permanetly.
And reverse is very different in 6 speed models and new German cars.
Good luck, and keep the stalling to a minimum 🙂
See we get along just fine!
