not really. that would be perfectly acceptable under the three criteria i just outlined: (1) it wouldn't be modded if it appeared in the normal text space of a post; (2) it is proximate to the original text, so people can compare; and (3) it relates to the original text in a meaningful way. as an intended satire of the view i am defending, it is perfectly a ...[text shortened]... ould relate to the original view (as yours does), and be proximate to that text (as yours is).
Originally posted by HandyAndyi also understand your concerns (i think). however, i think if the guidelines i outlined are adhered to, no harm will come o fit. as you say, we'll continue to disagree and, ultimately, it will be the site admins who make the final decision (if they ever get around to it). 🙂

actually, that might seem a little harsh on the admins who, after all, have expressed a view in the note that appears below the text posting box. what is needed, i guess, is either a change to that text - since clearly the rule is applied somewhat inconsistently - or clear guidelines supplied to the mods to enable them to apply the rule in a consistent manner, if complete strictness is not to be observed.

anyway, my main point is that the issue of editing quoted text needs to be clarified and a policy applied consistently. GB is quick to trot out the TOS whenever his text is modified, but hypocritically does it himself (see the Sticky Thread Game thread).
at my Canadian friend, GreatBigStees, qualifies as a Criminal RHP TOS Offence.

I'm just trying to help you out with the accent.
Far as we're concerned we say it fine. I got relatives from Boston that don't pronounce their r's, now that really sounds funny to us, but probably not to any Boston Lad. 😉
