@very-rusty saidWell it’s really not free you know…right?🤔
Move to Canada, you may wait a while but you will get it for FREE!

@great-big-stees saidOf course gbs our Taxes, but when we go for an MRI or Cat Scan, we don't need to pay out of pocket. Do you know how much that would be? Not everyone could afford that.

We should be proud to be Canadian also very lucky!

@very-rusty saidI didn't pay social welfare much attention when I was younger, because I was pretty healthy and was always able to provide for my family but being this age, I'm well aware of how fortunate I am to be where I am. I also know that not everybody feels as I do.

@very-rusty saidThe NHS in the UK is free. Trev spoke of paying for a 'private scan.' (As the NHS may involve a waiting list, some may decide to go private to get faster treatment).
You count your chickens before they hatch, what are you talking about having to pay then? Trev? Rusty 2. 🙂 😛

@ghost-of-a-duke saidI believe the same applies in Sweden - long waiting lists for some treatments and surgeries.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidYes, that is quite different, if they want to go to a private clinic and pay 100's of dollars and have the money to do so, good. Many don't have that luxury.

@the-gravedigger saidEven here waits are getting longer, but I haven't heard of anyone having to wait 12 months. Hell you could be dead before they find the problem.
If Ireland is anything like the UK you will wait 12 months for an MRI scan then they will lose the scan.

@very-rusty saidAbout 8 years ago I fell and hurt my foot, went to hospital and they did an x-ray and gave me crutches. In the end, about a month on crutches did the trick but they put my name down for physio. 6 months later I got a letter inviting me to go for physio.

@trev33 saidWOW....That sounds really slow to me. I guess over here we are spoiled when it comes to Medicare, yet people still complain about ours. If only they knew what people in other parts of the world had to put up with.

@very-rusty saidIndeed they don't, and there has been a move over recent decades towards private and corporate health insurance in the UK. Just to be clear, NHS heath care isn't 'free', it's free at the point of use, paid for out of taxes, and UK government philosophy of low taxation (it wins elections) has resulted in underfunding of the health service for decades. In Indonesia we pay about US$30.00 a month for government health insurance (it's compulsory, so it's akin to a targeted taxation) for us and our staff and their families, which gets you a private room in a very good hospital, and there's no waiting. I'd far rather be sick in Indonesia right now than in the UK.

@indonesia-phil saidHere is the point Phil. If you need a MRI or Cat Scan which can be very expensive to the average Joe, one would have to take it out of pocket. The money may not be there, so by paying it in one's taxes, it makes it easier for the patient.

They are talking about pay clinics here now. I don't think majority will do it, a small minority with a big wallet would have no problem and be more convenient for them. I don't think it will go anywhere, but one never knows.
