Well I recognised the german then it changed to what looked like dutch to me. If there was another then I missed it 😳

Edit: Actually, on closer inspection I could tell that something which must be Afrikaans as it seems like dutch but not quite. Given that I don't know any of those languages I'm just going by how they look!

You've completely lost me after the first page. That's alright though, I really only speak two languages fluently: English and Bad English. 😀

I can't tell the difference between Afrikaans and Dutch. How different are they? Is it like German and Swiss German? Do Akfrikaaners need to be dubbed/have subtitles if they appear on Dutch telly?

About four hundred years ago Dutch settlers went to South Africa.
Since then the language they spoke, originaly Dutch of course,
and the Dutch in the Netherlands had a seperate development
(no jokes please 😛). I guess it sounds the same for someone
who is not familiar with either.

Yes, Afrikaaners have subtitles on Dutch telly.

Well, the important thing is, that we can understand each other.
I know a few people who speak quite a lot of languages but are
unable to understand what I'm trying to say ...
... you know what I'm saying ? 😛

It's funny... despite the jokes, the difference between US and British English is on a much smaller scale; in fact, when they're in written form it can be hard to tell the difference. I wonder why?

I have no idea. Maybe one of our South African friends can tell us something about that ...
