Originally posted by MimorIn Portugal they also have bull-fighting but its much less violent. First they chop of the pointy part of the horns so no one get gored like that, then they have the forcados, who are basically a group of guys who take the bull by the horns and try to stop it, which is quite fun actually, especially when they don't manage to grab the beast properly. The only thing you could really complain about is them stabing the bull in the back while mounted on a horse a couple of times. But I see no real harm... though I wonder if they kill the bull afterwards.
Just different bees in the same swarm. The idea that might equals right accounts for so much misery and destruction. I agree that there are more urgent matters in the world but things like bullfighting feed the crueler parts of human nature.
Still I don't think this is very cruel for the bull at all. See these beasts are treated the right way until they enter the arena, not in the cruel way the animals who are brought up to be eaten are treated during their lives. These animals actually have a good life despite the traumatic encounter they have in the arena. I'm much more worried about those animals brought up to be fed to humans.
