A good way to get better at chess is to think hard about your moves, take the time to play through various options, and go back and analyze your losses to see where you went wrong. A good way to waste time is to play hundreds of games simultaneously without thinking very deeply, or at all, about any of them. Ach...never mind, I'm starting to sound like my own grandfather.

Bennett and others,

Look at Quirine, he has over 10,000 moves already and he is playing fairly well with rating about 1600.

That is very hard to accomplish, I have tried and failed!

Sometimes I can blow several games in few minutes which take days to recover!

It is pretty good correlation with the number of daily moves in average and the quality of the games, the quality suffers with quantity!

So player like Quirine must be very good since he can play so well and remain with high rating!

Still, I think Quirine is an impressive exception to the rule. In general, I have found that careful consideration of one's games almost always leads to good results. I, for one, play about as well as my opposition, and have gotten caught playing too fast by 1100 players on several occasions.

Erm...bbarr: The playing as well as the opposition part mostly has to do with sinking to their depths, not rising to their heights ๐Ÿ˜‰.

I'm not an exception! My level of play has dropped dramatically! I made a draw against Bbarr (and lost) and beat Lionel but in those games I paid more attention to the position...
I can play at a 1800 (RHP-rating) level I think

So maybe, since you appear capable, you should (when March is over, if you like), abandon MAP and take your place among the top 20 ratings. Beating Lionel is nothing to sneeze at.

If I do lose, it was fun Quirine, I might go for it again in a few months

Hey now! I'm just trying to give Adam some props here. Of course you're right, but I won't admit it. While we're on the subject though, playing more games is what I need personally. I am a MUCH better player OTB (for the sake of . The whole correspondance chess thing kicks me below the belt. It wasn't untill I came to RHP that I had ever played either so slowley or so many games at once. I try to keep my max games (10) going, but this is because:

A) I am in impatient player who likes to move often.

and

B) I am trying to gain skill in evaluating a board from a set position. I may be highly intelligent, but my short term memory is lacking.

I have trouble picking up where I left off. I often ask myself, "What was the plan here? I know yesterday I was confident about my position, but ......". Now a hundered games at a time......I must admit it is ostentacious, but I still give Adam props for having an attainable goal.

If you have any ideas as to how I might alter my mindset from OTB to correspondance, I would appreciate it. ๐Ÿ˜‰
