I was looking into Krav Maga. It's a very applicable and useful style. Not one of those traditional one's with all the kata's and such. 😀
I also like Aikido and that would be my second choice. TKD was OK but the kicks are not something I would use in a real fight as with my wrestling background I feel I could deflect most kicks thrown at me and once we're on the ground their done for. Aikido is cool because it's pure defense with throws and utilizes pressure point attacks and such. Harder to learn and not flashy, but also effective.
The one thing about Aikido that worries me is that it seems almost too gentle. I have seen some sparring with Aikido fighters and I think they would get smacked around by someone well trained in anything. And they have to wear those goofy looking pants that are extremely huge and kinda like a dress. I don't know how you could do anything in those! 😀 Krav Maga is pretty sweet though.

Thai Boxers dominate any other striker on their feet and if you add a good sprawl to that to stop grapplers and submission fighters then you are set. Vanderlei Silva is a good example. He is a brutal Thai boxer and has very good takedown defense. His knees are insaley powerful and he leaves welts with the low knee kicks he lands! 😵
I migrated from karate to kick boxing to doing Thai boxing at the moment. It's getting a bit too intense though (3 broken toes and a broken rib in the past 12 months).
Thai boxing is great for self defense because it isn't styleised, but only if you're clear headed enough to use it & not panic.
My opinion: thai boxing mixed with wrestling is w ...[text shortened]... g has a good shot against any other style because of the simple mix of speed & brutal power.

Originally posted by !~TONY~!Aikido is difficult to use in your defense when you're new at it but if you have ever seen a master use it, it's pretty good. They are said to have an invisible 'shield' around them that prevents attacks from landing. It's a very smooth style. I do agree with the fact that it is a little passive. Martial Arts that focus on punching and kicking are easier for novices to apply in real life than Aikido.

Originally posted by orkyboyI fight in gi's. I'm talking about these HUGE blacks pants and white tops that literally look like dresses. If anyone has seen Jnco brand pants they are like that but silky and black. I bet Aikido is great when you are well versed but being that it's completely defensive makes it a bit odd!

That is likely to land you in trouble, try sending him to his room instead.
