Excellent post.

Depends on what his honest answer to my question is. Will he offer one?

Are the repeated references to suicide connected to his own OP?

Or are they connected to the discussion - and the people who have been in discussions here?

Is he still smarting from having made a bit of a fool of himself about the causes of suicide on the Ethical Creeds thread?

Who knows. It seems like a topic that should have been a new thread, and yet he's chosen to post it here on this one. What do you think it means?

We're not, lolof.
It's up to each individual to "judge" themselves as these three authors have done and then published their points of view
as you have done here on this internet public forum.
I share their points of view.

How is it you think I have been "hard done by"? ~ your words. And a strange choice of words. I think you may be rather overestimating the effect of the content of your posts. Your little conveyor belt of teenage insults has no effect on me. robbie's been churning the same stuff out for years. I am more interested in how puerile it has all been ~ which does not render me "hard done by" in the slightest.

Are you willing to say why you have suddenly started posting rather obtrusively about suicide on this thread? It seems not. But why you wouldn't just say is not clear.

How about a new thread on suicide, Grampy Bobby, seeing as you seem to want to talk about it ~ or rather you seem to want to make people look at bits of text you've found on the internet? New topic, new thread? Just a thought.

I think perhaps GB you may have misinterpreted the meaning of this quote. (Apologies if you haven't). I'm 'assuming' you have interpreted it in a religious context, in that a man killing himself destroys all humanity as an affront to the divine. (?!) - I read it more that 'a man killing a man' still exists in the world, while a man killing himself 'turns off' existence, as far as he is concerned. I don't think Chesterton was passing a judgement on suicide itself.

“Suicide is man's way of telling God, 'You can't fire me - I quit!” Bill Maher

For many, suicide has nothing to do with God. Indeed, many will not even believe in his existence. From experience, suicide in more often than not a desperate act from an individual overwhelmed by life.

Since suicide is all about people who are no longer here to explain their actions, maybe it's irrelevant how we feel unless we know more about each individual case. Maybe we should just respect the fact that these tragedies are too complex for us to understand.
