@vivify saidI was brought up in fairly strict Christian household also, but my parents didn’t prohibit me from listening to any music I chose to. Unfortunately my musical taste in those days was mainly disco but I progressed to Wings, Fleetwood Mac, Roxy Music and then to Cream, The Stones, Floyd and Zeppelin. My parents main complaint was the volume I played it at.
Were there any artists or songs that your parents wouldn't allow you to listen to or disapproved of?

@beowulf saidYes I had their first Greatest Hits album and played it all the time. I didn’t mention ELO either and they were and still are one of my favourite bands.
@divegeester
All great bands.
No ABBA mention will be noted in your file. ๐คจ
In the early and mid 70s I loved all the chart stuff. I was a big Gary Glitter fan in the early 70s. Little did we know!
@vivify saidMy dad kindly drove me and a friend [in full chains and zips regalia] to a concert at Stevenage Civic Centre by hardcore punk bands The Exploited and The 4-Skins in 1981 which, at the time, I found slightly odd, because he'd barred me from going to a Bert Jansch concert in London a couple of months earlier because he was worried there might be violence!

My father was a strict religious guy and only Christian music was allowed in my house, with some rare exceptions where he'd listen to secular artists. So pretty much anything good was banned.
The one big exception was Michael Jackson, which he allowed mainly because my mom liked ...[text shortened]... Were there any artists or songs that your parents wouldn't allow you to listen to or disapproved of?
Led Zeppelin, Clapton, Santana, and Fleetwood Mac were my music idols (Stevie Nicks was a total super cutie!) I played these just loud enough to irritate my parents who hated everything made after WW 2. ๐
@the-gravedigger saidmy dad was into music hall and was an all round entertainer, sing ,dance ,jokes & magic but was stuck in his own timewarp 1920s to mid 50s. my ma liked most stuff and was a self taught fiddle players so we all inherited a bit of musical ability I was in a folk rock blues band in the 70s called doghouse Friday you can see the band on you tube.as were my 2 brothers, Don in particular was a multi instrumentalist and ended up singing in a barbers shop choir, the only non musical member was my sister but she managed HMV in middlesbrough.
Both my parents loved classical music and were regular opera goers.
Needless to say they had no interest in the 'pop' music that myself and my two sisters listened to. However they just let us get on with it and never stopped us from listening to anything.
@badradger saidInteresting. I will have a look on Youtube. Bet your dad was a riot at family parties.
