Are you raising just one variety out there in Minnesota, or do you raise several types? I usually have a large garden and like to try new tomatoe varieties every year. I've been looking over the seed catalogs here in PAπ΅ I'm ready for spring! And BTW guys, tonight I'm past the beer, no thanks to the carrot juice Ivanhoe and Prad. I'm having good old Tennessee sour mash...Jack Danielsπ

i admire people like you and chaswray who can garden so well - we are learning and getting better each year.
anyway, did you know you can eat pumpkin (and squash) leaves? most people are surprised by this. they can be steamed or better still, put into various curries. the leaves and the stems have a delightful crunchy texture to them. i'll put up a recipe one day in the veggiechess free food section.

prad, I am in a one day T/O in a siege game (blue castle) with prefect and this morning his vacation sign went on, is it ethical to time out. I did'nt get any message ahead of time.
they can get back in line. I have defended it twice now and have become quite fond of it.
in fact, it would appear that if there is a one day TO, it is expected that people will be there since the idea is to keep the thing moving. besides, from what you say, this doesn't sound like a 1 shot deal - they can get back in liine. so perhaps the usual rule of vacation courtesy doesn't apply here?

Squash blossoms at one time were all the rage in "noveau cuisine". and they are quite edible. Usualy you'll have more squash than you know what to do with, so try some blossoms for a change!
Happy New Year,
