The themes just define some legacy color combinations from the long dead alternative brand names.
These legacy themes are still supported, and still work. (The names just default to RedHotPawn Classic though)
I understand why you feel that way, there is a definitely a small amount of pain after every update before everything settles down again.
There are many, many moving parts to maintain, so some issues are inevitable during large scale changes.
The site you liked was the result of the update prior, which of course lead to similar conversations when it was released.
@Torunn saidIt did take us a bit to get use to the first change the one WE like now. I am having issues right now trying to figure out how to see just my games. All the Icons are there individually but when I press on one more than just my games are showing. Before I was able to look at just my games and if I had to resign one was able to do so, now I can't find how to do it unless it has been changed that one has to wait until it is their move to resign??? Perhaps Russ could answer this one.
I prefer the previous version - was the change absolutely necessary? 🙂

In your inbox top of page there are is an arrow that goes up and down. You can set it for where you want it fewest moves most moves Least time remaining etc., etc.,

2. How to make the list more compact in the "compact" mode? There is too much space between lines on PC.

Click on My Games first then you will see In Box click on that. To the Right you will see the down arrow to the right click on that and you will see how to change it, at least that is how I did it.

Sometimes my setting doesn't stay and I have to re-do it, but it could be something I did to cause it.
Mine still doesn’t have those options. Can you see those two options in your drop-down box?

In other words, we would initially get the default settings. If we changed how we wanted our games to be sorted and displayed, it would then be OK for the rest of that session, but when we logged off, and then came back to the beta site, our previous settings would not be as we had left them, but would instead be back to the default settings. So we would have to go back and reset each of them again.
It turned out that to fix that problem, all we had to do was clear all cookies for the beta site. This would result in closing the session and making us log back in again. But after than, we set the preferences back to the way we wanted them, and then it was locked in and they remained as selected after that.
So that may be worth a try.
(I should mention that this was not while using an app for a phone or tablet. It was accessing the website while using a laptop and firefox browser, in my case.)
To clear the cookies you just need to click on the padlock icon in the URL window at the top left side of the browser page. You will see the option to delete cookies and site data. Just do that. You will then be logged off of the site and have to log back in. Then just go in and set your preferences the way you want them and they should stay set for you.
