I remember his books The Winds of War, and War and Remembrance, great novels which I read non-stop. They also were made into a successful mini-TV-series. I still keep them in my bookcase.

"Leroy “Roy” Jeffs was found dead on Friday in Salt Lake City, Utah, The Salt Lake Tribune reports. He was 26.
He would have celebrated his 27th birthday on June 5.
Roy’s half-sister Rachel Jeffs confirmed his death, telling the outlet he died by suicide."

I hadn't heard this, either.
He often spoke glowingly of his wife Janet and her patience with him.
