@great-big-stees saidA short history for anyone interested in reading it can be found on google.
800+ years old and no serious issues. Statistically was it bound to happen? Still very sad.

@very-rusty said100 years to build it.
Wonderful, but this thread is not about us, it is about Notre Dame!
Someone was saying it took them 100 years to build starting in the 1100's finishing it in the 1200's. I obviously haven't looked up the history on it.

Sounds like they used the same builders I had in recently.
@the-gravedigger saidWell we are looking back at the 1100's, I am sure they didn't have the machinery and tools we have today. Probably chances are good they were much harder workers than the builders you had. 😉 I am amazed at how they built something so magnificent back then, as I am with much of the ancient buildings.

@very-rusty saidAnd you are not allowed to boil people in oil now if they screw up.

@the-gravedigger saidCan you submerge them in water to find out if they are witches?

-VR
@very-rusty saidNo. You must weigh them against a duck.
Can you submerge them in water to find out if they are witches?

@shallow-blue saidI am pretty sure they would submerge them in water to find out if they were witches, if they survived they would then burn them at the stake. Either way, they weren't going to make it!!!

If they swam they were witches and if they drowned they weren't.

@the-gravedigger saidOk, lets go with that, either way same end result! 😉

@very-rusty saidI think the point is that Notre Dame is of immense architectural value,
I just heard on the news that 800 million dollars have been raised to help restore Norte Dame!!! This is a place where the government look after the churches which is what makes it amazing that so many have contributed.

secondarily it is hugely important to Parisians and the French in general.
That it is a Catholic building is not that important.

@wolfgang59 saidI agree. Surely, we all can see that it is important to everyone with a feeling for architecture and historical values.

@wolfgang59 saidHowever it's regarded: It's very important to Catholics.

Just like the venerated Cathedral at Chartres, which has suffered several fires and calamities in its history, Notre Dame will be rebuilt. Thus it will become, even more of an endearment, to the world at-large.
@wolfe63 saidThere are those who say everything happens for a reason.
