Pro tip: just because YOU don't 'get' something doesn't make it a failure... it makes YOU a failure.
You're welcome.
- OP makes thread titled "Linux whores" then appears to need help from the "Linux whores" on how to do something a school girl should be able to do - install flash.
- Phlabibit's "Pro Tip" which is anything other than a "Pro Tip". Stop being a tosser.

Originally posted by AgergHi there. I will try that command in a bit thank you. I used the same command to update and upgrade. How do you know the name of the program file you want to get?
I'm on ubuntu (11.10), many (including me) don't like their unity interface though - good news is one can grab hold of gnome very easily. As for installing flash I remember trying this directly from the adobe site when I was on 10.10 and it was annoying - probably easier to just open a terminal and sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer
I downloaded the tarballz file. I unpacked it using the GUI and could not find an install file. I also unpacked it using the terminal and again failed to initiate and install file which again failed.

Ooops. It appears it is you that is slinging the insults, not me. Ha ha. If you have a problem with me, maybe you should take a look closer to home. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

EDIT: You're having a go at me for something I haven't done, but you have done. Figure that one out? Not going to give you a second more of my time.

As for an install file you're unlikely to see this, instead you'll have source code from which you create your own binaries. This comprises (after changing to the directory where all the source code is hiding) 3 commands:
./configure - runs the executable file "configure" within the current directory which does some checks for dependencies and figures out where these dependencies are if not in your current folder, and if everything comes back ok it creates a makefile for you.
make - based on the rules in the makefile, compiles the source code and creates for you an executable
make install - installs the program

a) OP makes a thread titled "Linux whores" (which offends one person) and (presumably completely new to linux) probably doesn't even know which man pages to read yet when someone says rtfm, let alone get some use out of them; and so asks how to install a program in linux.
b) Phlabibit offers enrico20 some helpful advice (to overcome being a complete tw**).
c) enrico20 asks which of (a) or (b) is more douchey.

d) Agerg has edited this post 5 times (preempting your most likely comeback, so that you may grow as a person. Hope this helps 🙂 )

1. Agerg, you should know that you can get a vacation from the forum for misquoting posts.
2. If the guy can't even install flash then he shouldn't be messin about with Linux - he says he has been back to Windoz several times. What if he was actually doing something of some degree of difficulty like partitioning or installing Debian/FreeBSD?
3. I credit this thread though with something - I have woken up and hopefully suffer no more timeouts. The bad news is that douches who post threads titled like this will face both barrels of my shotgun. 🙂
Originally posted by enrico20Perhaps you would care to tell me how I misquoted you - indeed copy/paste what I quoted you as posting (hint: comes in it's own box, with shading, and the text is bold) in some file, then copy/paste what you posted (hint: will be prior to what I posted) int some other file, vimdiff them both and tell me the result.

As for: "If the guy can't even install flash then he shouldn't be messin about with Linux - he says he has been back to Windoz several times. What if he was actually doing something of some degree of difficulty like partitioning or installing Debian/FreeBSD? "
it's the FYIRTFM responses that come from the likes of yourself (who has forgotten what it's like to be clueless in a new environment and doesn't know which combination of man pages he should have read out of thousands) that serve to guarantee that anyone who dares to migrate away from windows
(which hides from the average user, and shields from the average user any notions of how the system works deeper than superficial)
has a crap experience with linux.
He probably has no intention of partitioning or installing Debian/FreeBSD yet - indeed this follows pretty much from what he posts so far.
Based on your thinking, should we stop teaching children how to count because if they can't do something so easy what will happen if they try to do something more difficult like solving a differential equation!? 😕
