The post that was quoted here has been removedClaiming that the entire human race is born inherently tainted is just asinine.
I'm not sure you're using the term "asinine" correctly. To post such a thought as you did with this:
"Where else do we get our bad habits, prejudices, hang-ups and chips on shoulders?"
which clearly demonstrates your distaste/distrust for all things human, and then post the following thought:
"It's insulting, depressing and reeks of self-loathing."
sounds more like you are explicitly agreeing with the idea that we are fundamentally flawed.
And then when you post this thought:
"Here's a test for you: when you see a new born baby, what is your first thought?"
you're revealing a general confusion of terms such as innocence, guilt and nature. There is a big gap between what you know and what you need to know. What you know leads to nothing less than the frustration evident in nearly every one of your posts. What you don't know--- what you lack--- is that which will bring you peace.

The post that was quoted here has been removedOK. My original post wasn't serious.
I didn’t take it as completely serious; rather more as a light-hearted jab with a nonetheless somewhat-serious undertone.
Most parents are loving, selfless and want the best for their child. If that wasn't the case, we as a species would have died off soon enough.
I agree, but the point is that we are still all somewhat guilty of passing off our foibles onto the next generation.
I don't understand how my stating that GB's post was "insulting, depressing and reeks of self-loathing." explicitly agrees with the idea that we are fundamentally flawed. Maybe you can explain what you mean by this?
As seen in above response.
My question for GB, in that does he genuinely see a baby and think it is inherent evil, is clearly flippant. No sane person would see a newly born baby and consider it inherently evil. My point was to prove the obvious flaw in GB's (and I presume your) thinking.
If, by “inherent” you mean as a natural consequence of being human the child is somehow less than desirable, then the answer is yes. Every person born into this planet by virtue of the union between a man and a woman is born inherently flawed--- even the five beautiful children with which I was blessed.
Organised Religion happily claims that a new born baby is a gift from God and simultaneously claims that somehow, the child needs cleansing of Original Sin. The contradiction is so explicit it becomes risible.
Organized religion is correct in this regard, with certain caveats. While all of us are born with a sin nature, the remedy is so comically simple that most people reject it flat-out. I say ‘comical’ advisably, since I am referring to its final application, not the remedy’s actual constitution. The final application--- the simple part of it--- is acceptance, or belief. What made such a resolve possible was anything but simple, anything but easy.
Finally, what do I lack? I'm fiercely optimistic for the Human Race.
For one, you’re placing your hope on something that, quite frankly, is never going to happen. Hope placed there is hope not placed elsewhere--- where such faith would see actual results.
As a species we have developed some of the most amazing, beautiful things.
Amen.
Our short-falls are slowly being eradicated, sometimes through wonderful inventions and insights, mainly through amelioration. Those who label people as flawed before they have even said their first words need to look at their own personal issues before they drag the rest of us down.
Sounds eerily like the sentiments being bandied about right at the 19th century came to a close… right before The War to End all Wars, uh, part one, of course.
Peace? What you're referring to as 'Peace' is a childish resignation and a downward spiral to ignominy and ignorance.
There is no dishonor, no shame and certainly no humiliation for those who place their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Only the uneducated/uninformed could hold such a view…
Otherwise, I appreciate the articulate response you offered. It was thoughtful and a welcome change from the usual voice of protests.
