Divegeester, your fellow "Attention Horse Clan" member, and good old boy Duecer, fellow member of "PF Key Clan". Both men have page one threads in the RHP Spirituality Forum. Divegeester's is titled, "What must I do to be saved from hell?" Please read page one/post one and page five/post thirteen. Duecer's is titled, "Saved by Faith". Please read page one/posts one and three as well as page two/posts six and seven. These six posts may shed light on your questions.

My poor dear innocent boy, you'd be better off donning a tea-cosy and strumming for alms on a homemade biscuit tin mandolin than attempting to engage in reasonable discussion with FreakyKBH.
Like he'd even be able to find a tea-cosy that fit.
Some "friend" you turned out to be.
The post that was quoted here has been removedThere's a huge difference between 'being only human' and recognising that each one of us has the potential for good and bad, and the fire and brimstone line pushed by the Church.
Your definition of good and God’s are about as diametrically opposed as possible. Of course, the ‘good and bad’ system under which the world currently operates certainly agrees with your assessment. However, this system is not what was intended for man; it simply became the default once man absconded his rule of the planet.
That being said, even recognizing that we are all capable of functioning in that ‘good and bad’ system on either side of the balance (or, as experience shows more often that not, both) does nothing for to relieve us of that state: there is no ultimate hope in that system. The best that we can hope for is a temporary cessation of bad, a temporary buzz from a diluted good.
The Church gains through its policy of writing each and everyone of us off as "bad".
Organized religion is not the only game in town. For one, I cannot think of a single organization which was not created for profit. Thankfully, God has not left us in such a sad state of affairs without hope.
Hmmm. Believe in this or burn in hellfire for eternity? Takes me back to my point on Pascal's wager...
This is not a salvation issue. The issue in salvation is one thing: what do you think of the Christ? Whether or not you believe that man is born fundamentally flawed--- or any other aspect of reality--- is (at best) a secondary issue. First, foremost and primary is what do you think of the Christ?
Will some class of deus ex machina solve war, recession, swine flu, HIV/AIDs, literacy problems... Maybe we're just not praying hard enough eh?
The “problems” you describe are not problems at all. Furthermore, man did not invent God, but rather, the other way around.
Personally, I'd rather put my faith in our collective endeavours than in fairy stories.
And look where such ill-placed faith has placed us so far.
Maybe Jesus can help stop the ice caps melting?
Hailing from NE Ohio, I wouldn’t mind a less-than-frigid winter every year.
How can I educate or inform myself regarding 'Jesus'? I'll tell you - listen and read the words of people. Did God write the Bible?
The word of God is alive and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
I have read some pretty compelling literary works in my short life, but I’ve never read a book besides the Bible which has been able to accomplish such undertakings. Given just this aspect of experience, I think it’s pretty safe to say that the Bible wasn’t written by any man…

Therefore, it was either intended for man or God lacks omniscience.
