Well, picking through the sarcastic and the helpful comments here it might console you to find another person who suddenly couldn't save as a jpeg in photoshop CS2 even though I've done it loads of times before.

Solution for me was to save as tiff and then use a proper (hell of a lot faster at least) image program to do the conversion for (The Gimp).

Image was remarkably flat and consisted entirely of Red, Green and Blue with no hint of C's or K's or suchlike. My only guess is that Neatimage, which I used before hand, was outputting a 48bit image. Yikes!! 😲

alpha layer is not a problem for saving as jpeg on PS...

edit: oh, 48 not 40, so it wasn't the alpha layer after all... beats me then.

No, there was no alpha channel. Image flattened. Save as.... Hey , where's my jpeg option. If it happens again I'll investigate further but it was only an image of my cat 🙂 Weird pose and perspective it's true but it was still, just my cat 🙂

In Photoshop 5 LE you have to flatten it before you can save it as JPEG. So it probably changed in PS 6, or it worked differently in the full version. (The most annoying thing about the limited edition is that you can go only one step back. That's the main reason why I didn't install it on my laptop, but use Gimp instead, even though I am not all that happy with that either.)
