Originally posted by nmdavidbI enjoy Texas hold'em myself. All the money sites have folded in the states. Congress wasn't getting a share of the money so they outlawed on-line play for money. But I play at ultimatebet.com 2-3 times a week.
That is why I play for free on ultimatebet.com
I like their setup alot better than PokerStars

Let me know if you have a work around on the legal stuff cause I'd like to take your money! 😵

I'll see what I can rustle up. I know of only one of my friends who plays Hold'em with us who actually plays online for real money...
So, anybody else interested in a RHP tournament? Details in the first couple of posts in this thread.

I can clarify the legal issue with playing poker in the states. Basically, at the last minute, Sen. Bill Frist slipped some legislation into the completely unrelated Safe Ports Act. This legislation prohibits American financial institutions from allowing transactions with businesses that allow wagers which are illegal under the Federal Wire Act of 1961. Now, this is where it gets really murky. Here's the wording of the Wire Act:
"Whoever being engaged in the business of betting or wagering knowingly uses a wire communication facility for the transmission in interstate or foreign commerce of bets or wagers or information assisting in the placing of bets or wagers on any sporting event or contest, or for the transmission of a wire communication which entitles the recipient to receive money or credit as a result of bets or wagers, or for information assisting in the placing of bets or wagers, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."
Cliffnotes for those who didn't want to read that: placing sports wagers over any wire communication is illegal. Now, this wording predates the internet obviously, and also specifically mentions sports betting. Nowhere does it say anything about betting on poker.
So now we get back to that little piece of legislation in the Safe Port Act. Nothing in there makes it illegal to play poker online for money, it just reinforces what was already illegal under the Wire Act. The Poker Players' Alliance is on a mission to get Congress to permanently exempt poker from the provisions of the Wire Act, and recognize it as a game of skill.
Well, long story short: I am still playing Internet poker on two sites, Pokerstars and Fulltiltpoker. These are really the only sites that I feel safe with my money. If you're an American, you can easily get money on there by going through a 3rd party like ePassporte.com, which I use and haven't had any problems with.
Also, I'd love to get in on this tournament sometime, but I'm at work while it's going on. Perhaps if the next one is during the weekend....

Do the sites you play at support private tournaments?
A weekend game is a distinct possibility, but may occur at shorter notice.
Anybody else?

Ok, I've set up the tournament on pokerroom.com.
If you go into the tournaments section, you'll see a "private" tab, and it's in there, set to start at 17:30 EDT, which is 21:30 GMT/UTC.
The buy in is $5.50 with .50 going to the site, and the rest into the pot. 1 buyback each. Top 3 paid if over 7 players, otherwise, top 2.
The password is rhp. Invite some friends as the more the merrier.
