I'm not a died in the wool blue blooded monarchist, and getting a bit bored with all the union jack bunting, but even I am impressed by our monarch. She has presided for 60 years in a calm, cheerful, utterly elegant and intelligent manner. There were mistakes (reaction to Princess Di's death), but despite her buffoon of a husband she has carried out her duties, in my view, in an exemplary way.
Any comments?

Puke!!
Princess Di was above all of them
The fact that the fascist rag otherwise known as The Daily Mail never stops creaming itself in her memory is reason enough to forget Lady Di and announce to the world that lizzie the 2nd is the third best monarch we have had, and the other two were women as well.
Originally posted by Pianoman1It's just my uneducated view.
Explain, please.
Any comparison between Princess Di and the Queen is invalid because Di, beautiful, charming and charismatic as she was, never reigned, never had to carry out the onerous duties as monarch.
since the royal family seem to take up so much "news" space when they are just going from one place to another ( or some other non-event) , and also all those tabloids, I figure I can have my views and expouse my opinion in everyone's face just as poorly as the royal families gullets seem to come into mine .
Originally posted by Pianoman1I agree, I think she is amazing, and so indeed was Elizabeth I - intelligent women who have made great sacrifices.

We have a proper regal monarchy; rather than the neutered version the Belgians, Danes or other mostly boring monarchs of Europe. If you are going to have a monarch, do it properly! Have some heritage, make it work for the country commercially and emotionally and ignore all the left-wing bleating about rich spoilt people avoiding tax - its part of the package.
You seem to be forgetting that the Queen herself was a looker when she was young too!

Originally posted by Pianoman1I quite agree. Like our queen, she's done her job, and done it well. And she's kept Charles out, for whom I have a certain sympathy, but who I must admit is not really fit for this particular job. Recently, it seems that William has started to take after his gran more than his dad - let's hope this continues.
