More people have been killed by three famous followers of Marx than in all religious conflicts put together. Says enough, doesn't it?

That's true of all religions, but some are more exteme than others, some are more accommodative than others too. If someone is shoplifting or having one night stands, thay're better off if they're caught by non-moslems in a non-moslem culture/community/state/republic.

You've got one guy who doesn't swear because he believes that offends God.
Another guy who won't eat shellfish or pork for the same reason.
Yet another guy who stoned his neighbor's wife for adultery.
What person lives right in God's opinion? How do you avoid division and extremes? Who decides what is extreme?
WELL?

Yes. Obviously. Politics is supposed to be divisive, cruel and intolerant of other beliefs.
I'd prefer my politicians try to lead and foster my country, rather than destroy it from the inside out. Maybe that's a weird thing to want.

Originally posted by Shallow BlueWhat I meant is that politics is divisive because it is confrontational - the left attacks the right, the right attacke the centre, the centre attacks everyone. Views are polarized. Whereas religion should be inclusive, unioinising (is that a word?), harmonizing and toe-curling. The problem with religion, in my opinion, is that it is too political, too confrontational, too blind, too unforgiving, too members only. I have no problem with spirituality, but there are fewer Christians in church than out.
