How many of your soccer players are getting paid 1,000,000 pounds per season to play? We have players making $25,000,000 US per year to play baseball. I think the top in football is $18,000,000 US
Where are you getting this information?
Just as a matter of interest.
and in basketball it is around $16-17,000,000 US per year. They just bought Beckem over for soccer and I believe he is getting $11,000,000 per year including perks.
Is that what you were asking?

conversion is around $2=£1

Wow, I didn't realize the dollar was doing that well against the pound. When I was in Scotland 2 years ago is was around 2.3 to 1.
Originally posted by shortcircuitPoint of correction - Beckham signed a five year deal for $250 million.

[Yes, that's two hundred and fifty million dollars]
Originally posted by orangutanyes, but a huge portion of that was actually treated as a signing bonus and it also has ties in with him and his acting career, and for doing PR work for the league and attendance figures....very convoluted. But you are correct, I did understand the total compensation package would be 250 million. I was merely stating the part that was to be allocated toward salary for the soccer. I may not have stated that correctly.

The last time it was close to that must've been the late 1950s.
And yes I was being serious.

Originally posted by shortcircuitAre you suggesting that the best players from the US couldn't beat the best players from any other single country in the world, or would it take an international all-star team to beat a US only team in those particular sports? I am unsure what your posts suggests. I would suggest that a US only team would fare well in basketball and in baseball against a team comprised of players from any other single country (except perhaps a Dominican team in Baseball, but then again the best Dominican baseball players are all playing MLB). In order for any such comparison to be fair, though, you would have to play the US championship team against another single team...not an all star cast from within a particular country, or an international all-star team. If you want to select the best from a single country, then to make the comparison fair you'd have to allow for a US all-star team as well. Simply throwing an all-star team against a single club would not be at all fair, nor would it make your point correct.
Sorry again mate...the world champs in baseball and basketball would not be the world champs if the very best of the US played against the very best form the other countries. That isn't the case. It is a sprinkling of some of our best against the very best elsewhere. The reason is money. The very best don't need the exposure and they don't get paid so they don't play for the US. If you are a true fan, you realize this too.

What's soccer? 😕
Someone should tell the yanks that the U.S. is not the center of the world.
Originally posted by BLReidNo, I meant to say the US would wipe the floor with most countries if the very best we had played as a team. The only hitch in that thought is that most of the other countries have national teams that play together for years in basketball, soccer and hockey, and those sports would make it tougger against All Star teams from the US who never play together. Even at that disadvantage, the US would usually win running away (in basketball, football and baseball anyway).
