I think that morality is something innate within us - I think it defines us as humans and sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom.

We're talking about morality, not animal behavior. We learned that stuff in third grade. You didn't add anything to our knowledge.

That's a can of worms right there. If you're referring to the lack of morals, then I'd say our families and communities have dropped the ball on that one. Immorality is rampant and pervades human existence at every level.
But that's a whole other debate.

And, frankly, I don't think it'll change the world even if we proved anything or not. You've made up your mind that a "God figure" hasn't given us a moral code to follow, that you are equipped innately with one of your own, and that's the end of the discussion.

Here is my take on the shooter, he was a confused homosexual with self loathing issues due to his indoctrination into Islam. He then was rejected by another gay man and then decided to at least try to atone for his "gayness" by dying in jihad for Allah.
The only question becomes, what will he do with the 72 virgins?
