I think that morality is something innate within us - I think it defines us as humans and sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom.
It is nurtured in us by our families and our communities and our diverse societies. Indeed, it is the very thing that makes human society function, and that is probably exactly why it developed and evolved.
Philosop ...[text shortened]... us people too - have been pondering it in their various ways for as long as humans have existed.
That's a personal opinion, and quite unprovable. Morals are learned.
"...I think it defines us as humans and sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom."
We're talking about morality, not animal behavior. We learned that stuff in third grade. You didn't add anything to our knowledge.
"It is nurtured in us by our families and our communities and our diverse societies. Indeed, it is the very thing that makes human society function, and that is probably exactly why it developed and evolved."
That's a can of worms right there. If you're referring to the lack of morals, then I'd say our families and communities have dropped the ball on that one. Immorality is rampant and pervades human existence at every level.
But that's a whole other debate.
"Philosophers - and, in a way, theologians and religious people too - have been pondering it in their various ways for as long as humans have existed."
And still we see massive declines in civilization and anything remotely resembling "the brotherhood of man".
You're an idealist, no?

Telling me over and over and over again that I hadn't answered his question when I had, and he surely knew it, was surely josephw trying to be funny. The same can be said for his bizarre denials that he has condemned homosexuals even when the bits where he did were quoted verbatim. It must be a brand of 'funny'. What else could it be? 😉
Except at your ridiculous attempts at sounding sophisticated. You mince words better than anyone I know.

That you think your personal preference for Christianity [and the way it seems to enable you to abstain from putting forward any actual arguments and just cite your religious beliefs instead] can somehow simply be superimposed onto all the homosexuals in the world and their "supporters" ~ is surely textbook "self righteousness", right?
That is by any stretch clearly a declaration of self-righteousness.
The Bible doesn't teach us how to be self righteous. It teaches us that the righteousness we need is God's righteousness. You didn't learn that in the 28 years you practiced Christianity?
In the mean time we need to learn to be humble. Something I'm still trying to understand. 😉
FMF: I think that morality is something innate within usThis is an interesting answer from someone who believes that humans were all created by a God figure and that they were created in His image and endowed with souls - at the moment the egg is fertilized by the sperm - which will go on to be "saved" if they place their faith in "unprovable" things.

Oh God, when will it ever end?! 😉

Nobody cares about our stupid argument anyway. 😉
And, frankly, I don't think it'll change the world even if we proved anything or not. You've made up your mind that a "God figure" hasn't given us a moral code to follow, that you are equipped innately with one of your own, and that's the end of the discussion.
All that's left is for me to confess I'm a homophobic right wing conservative false God worshipping backwoods butt scratching fart sniffing nose picking booger eating hate mongering brainwashed flea bitten knuckle dragging anthropomorphic sloth. Then you'd be happy!
Feel free to add anything you think I missed. 😉

Here is my take on the shooter, he was a confused homosexual with self loathing issues due to his indoctrination into Islam. He then was rejected by another gay man and then decided to at least try to atone for his "gayness" by dying in jihad for Allah.
The only question becomes, what will he do with the 72 virgins?
