Rugby isn't our national sport. We have 3 codes of footy (not including soccer) who all have a roughly equal supporter base, with a good chunk of them following cricket when the footys not on.
Don't you have Aussie Ball or something? This is a question not a joke. 😛

It's Australian Rules Football - pretty rough game - it's the only game I've seen that they actually have a injuries section on the score sheet at the end of a game (broken jaw, arm etc.). Rough stuff...

Brain:
1996 - Blues
1997 - Blues
1998 - Crusaders
1999 - Crusaders
2000 - Crusaders
2001 - Brumbies
2002 - Crusaders
With the Blues who, I think are gonna do it this year.

The South African teams really struggle in the Super 12, partly due to the hard overseas tour which is 5-6 weeks long whereas the NZ and Oz teams only come to SA for 2 weeks each. Not making excuses - the NZ regionals are just very strong with an endless supply of talent it seems.

The SA national side is under constant pressure because of the constant coach sackings with new coaches bringing in new players for 'their style of play' - load of BS.
I mean, just look at the very successful sides NZ, OZ & England now, all players that have played lots of games together with a good mixture of excitig rookies and experienced players. The problem *I think* in SA rugby is we're always seemingly looking for the quick fix player who'se going to win all our games for us - then he probably gets injured.

Aussie Rules is nowhere near as rough as rugby or league. It's very rare that a full tackle is ever made, it's more important to secure their arms than to bring them to the ground.

Also crawley, what makes you think the blues will take it out? As i said before i don't follow union as closely as league, but i thought the blues were sitting on the middle of the ladder, at best.

Thanks Crowley.Dyl,the blues tops the table at the moment looking very likely to win it indeed.Crowley,I couldnt agree more with your quick fix theory. This might once again be our downfall in the WC.See Derick Hougaard.

I challenge you to play as a ruckman or even just contest a mark in high level afl. Just because the rules regarding tackles is different from rugby (league or union) does not mean it is not rough.

lol, sorry trekkie, forgot you were from melb.

I wasn't calling it soft by any means, but it isn't near as rough as the rugby codes. The fact that your not required to run head on into a line of big beefy no neck types helps.

P.s. I think i'll pass on the challenge, i don't think my genitals could take the strain of those shorts.

I don't know Dylan, too many Gary Owens in Aussie Rules.
They get up high and it's a long way down with two players trying to go for the same ball.

Caper's short were lost when he left the field for the final time, they have never made another appearance.

The afl commision investigated the disappearence but some places are too sensitive to probe.

😀 😀 😀

For all non-aussies, caper's shorts are legendary both sides of the border. Picture the kind of underwear a model would wear, then half an hour later when you're finished with that image stuff a big footy player into the same dacks. Scary, scary stuff. Trekkie, if that isn't a good enough reason to start following one of the rugby codes, i don't know what is.

Crawley, I endured an afl (aussie rules) game the other day at a friend's house and there were some pretty hard knocks. One guy fell on his head rather badly (as opposed to falling on your head nicely). But right afterwards in the league game a guy got his nose completely smashed across his face, his upper jaw split up the middle, and a rather nasty headache. That bloke now has the dubious title of being the ugliest guy in league (hotly contested).

Yeah I know, I've suffered some bad injuries myself when I still played union. Torn ligaments, broken nose (x2), concussions and now my knees and back is shot as well. Also endured a few punches and constant rucking from the opponent tight five - not fun. Gotta love rugby... whatever flavour you like.

BTW, I don't think the Brumbies has what it takes this year - they don't seem to be the same team this year that they've been the past 2 years. I think the final will be Crusaders vs. Blues. Not that the SA teams look too good actually.

I've been a Stormers supporter all my life, but this year they're really testing my loyalty.
But I can understand, because the Stormers have had a harrowing time with injuries to too many key players, most of them being guys who are or have been Springboks. These are the players who had injuries that kept them out of the Super 12 for extended periods of time:
Corne Krige
Cobus Visagie
Selbourne Boome
Chris Rossouw
Pieter Rossouw
Breyton Paulse
Werner Greeff
De Wet Barry
Marius Joubert
Quinton Davids
Peter Dixon

If you know the Stormers then you'll understand why they've been struggling this season, because these players include basically all the 'star' players - the game winners.
