and even if you don't answer, it's gonna slow you down a few seconds because the mind races through thoughts like "the hell if I'm gonna respond, he's just trying to use up my time... or maybe I should write something.. hell no, that's just... etc."

Yeah I can see how that would be annoying.

You know what else is annoying? When a player rated much higher than yourself intentionally slows down a game that they are clearly losing on material and drags the game on for months just to be a dick.

I know it's well within the rules but it is still annoying and poor sportsmanship in general.

I often wait when in a losing position to make my moves: Especially when my opponent is showing around 1200 or 1300 rating and is actually a 1700 or 1800 player... And I must say that I enjoy doing so, very much. 😛

I would like to know what it means to other players. What things do you appreciate, or get mildly annoyed by?

I often find myself wondering why people don`t just play against their PCs, am I going mad or do other people like to get a "gg", "hola", "hello", "well done" etc?

I`d also be interested to hear any anecdotes from OTB games.

Thanks in advance!
Someone who writes hurry up constantly when I have 45 days of reflection time if you don't

Well you haven't done that to me and besides the example you gave is a legit reason. I do the same when I've got a player that is an obvious cheat. Like someone that plays at a 1300 level consistently for 3-4 months then suddenly overnite shoots up to 2000+. I figure if I wait long enough they'll get banned. At least it used to be that way. Now I'm not so sure.

It's correspondence chess. If the pacing is not to your liking, then perhaps you'd be better suited toward over the board chess or blitz on the Internet?

That misses the point. Correspondence chess is fine and I don't mind the pace. The annoyance (and it is only a mild annoyance really) is when a player plays at a certain pace then suddenly changes pace drastically due to a lost position. That in my opinion, while legal as far is this site is concerned, is unsportsmanlike no matter how you spin it. The title of this thread is Sportsmanship in Internet chess and so I thought my comments were relevant.

You've complained on this thread about how it is annoying when someone greets you in a blitz game and how that effectively shortens an already short time control. Yet you have a no problem with someone effectively lengthening a game by exploiting the long time control when it suites them.

Good luck, and Good game are just nice things you should say. When I say this, I mean it. I enjoy games and I know every game has a winner and a loser... I ...[text shortened]... for the love of the game and doesn't resort to cheating so they can win more often.

In my opinion, calling someone a "dick" is unsportsmanlike; how old are you -- 13? I've done nothing to violate the rules, nor have I bent them to my advantage. If your game where already won, then it would already be over.
