I would like to know what it means to other players. What things do you appreciate, or get mildly annoyed by?

I often find myself wondering why people don`t just play against their PCs, am I going mad or do other people like to get a "gg", "hola", "hello", "well done" etc?

I`d also be interested to hear any anecdotes from OTB games.

Thanks in advance!
What you need to do when you lose is knock the virtual chess peices off of the board, call the person a cheater, and go home. That's how I would handle things.

It didn't start with a "C" and end with a vowel ? LOL !
i can't say, daren't upset them. i'm only a non sub. mums the word, very hush hush and all that. cloak and dagger you know, -thats the phrase i was looking for.
(just between you and me, -i haven't been able to find out much about the M.s ........you know who i mean.....who they are, how they operate and all that. i fear that they are among us, you could be playing against one now, in fact you might even be one. anyway i got into an argument once with a guy who's name began with "s", annoyed him a little i think because i wouldnt answer the question he asked me repeatedly, next thing i had moderators swarming all over me. i think maybe he was a M. or was related to one, or he is in some sort of club or something. :'(

LOL...IF his name started with "S" it was not a Moderator!

There really is no big secret! Down at bottom of page click on "Site Map" takes you to another page...Then click on Volunteers and a list of who the forum and game mods are, is listed for all to see.

The majority of them are Good. A few are a little full of themselves, and let the authority go to their heads at times, in my humble opinion.😉

Oh yes I hear you...I always make it a point never to upset them 😛 !

I also have heard through the grapevine that a few of those Forum Mods, can actually walk on water! 😲

I get deeply annoyed when my opponent has the impertinence to subtly manouvere his/her pieces in line with a clearly defined strategic plan, which culminates in a material advantage, leading to me being defeated.

Good luck, and Good game are just nice things you should say. When I say this, I mean it. I enjoy games and I know every game has a winner and a loser... I ...[text shortened]... for the love of the game and doesn't resort to cheating so they can win more often.

Well said.
I think its basic manners, something that seems to be a lost art. I am playing a person on the end of a pc, and saying hello is an acknowledgment of the other person. This place for me is fun and relaxation, not a job.

There have been lots interesting posts.

Does anyone have any OTB anecdotes, or are there any famous ones from Masters players? Don`t really know much about the games most famous characters like Bobby Fisher etc...

There is a psychology at work in most chess games, and the player who is able to upset his opponent has an edge of sorts as seen by the postings.. Be aware of the psychology of your opponent. Many of you have supplied you future opponents with information that can be used against you. And I for one enjoy the psyc aspect of the game. Especially when up against a cheater or a better player. Think about it. Most OB players are aware of this.
