What a supprise when they turned out to be popcorn films for kids, never thought that did we!!!
thanks i will have to check that out. are you looking foward to this movie as I am
So yes I am looking forward to it, but not in a huge way, not in a Return of the King way.

I'm not sure Lucas can ever live up to the first three (Empire being my favorite). Like Latex Bishop, those films did define my childhood to a point as well. They had such an impact then.
I look forward to the new films, but with less expectations.
I liked Phantom and Clones but they were not on par with the first three.
Actually, I dont think Mr. Lucas will ever surpass the mythology and fun of the first two (star wars and empire).
Originally posted by turtlexI've had plenty of arguments with fellow film buffs about this, but I still say that "American Graffiti" is Lucas's best film. I do love the first Star Wars trilogy though, trully love it, but "American Graffiti" in my opinion is just a better film. It cuts deeper than Star Wars ever has, the closest being the ending of "The Empire Strikes Back". I think the only way Lucas will ever make another good movie is (and no death threats, please) if he abondons the sci-fi genre and makes something complete different, with barely any action and nothing big and hairy.

I see your points, but I think GL's involvement with the Indiana Jones series is better than "American Graffitti".
I liked "American Graffitti", don't get me wrong, but I think its an effective slice of Americana more than its an outstanding film.
I guess we should define our meetings of a George Lucas film. Would you consider the Indiana Jones movies (the first and third being my favorites) to be Lucas films, or just Spielberg creations.
George was also involved with "Tucker: A man and his dream" which was a great movie.
I'm just wondering how we are going to get from a young Aniken to Darth Vader in one film....... Seems like a big gap to cover in only a single movie.
Episode 2 was the only one I did not see thin a theater... cuz I heard it STUNK. I finally watched it on the VCR and I think it is one of the best... perhaps just because I expected it to stink so bad... and didn't pay a dime to watch it.

Originally posted by turtlexI never trully considered Indiana Jones to be directly a Lucas movie. That's, again, another trilogy that is just wonderful, but no one outside of Lucas, Spielberg, Lawrence Kasdan, and a couple others can trully agree on who contributed what. Its more or less a big controversy on who the genius is behind those movies. Also, did anyone notice that Lawrence Kasdan was actually the writer of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of The Jedi, and Raiders Of The Lost Ark??? He also wrote and directed Body Heat, which I think is one of the best noir films ever. Its sad that Spielberg and Lucas are the only real recognizeable names from both those trilogies. 😕

Have you heard the latest. Lucas is going to finish episode 3 then he will go back to episodes 4,5,6 and insert characters from 1, 2, and 3 into the original trilogy then and only then will he finally release the first trilogy onto dvd...a truly sad day for star wars fans??? Has anyone heard about a new Indiana Jones Movie??? Does it have harrison Ford in it cause I cant imagine this 60 year old man running around playing the part convincingly. tell me your thoughts on this. I think francis ford copola is a far better director than lucas will ever be.
Originally posted by atwood2Francis Ford Coppola WAS a glorious director, but he hasn't done anything worth watching since One From The Heart. What you said about Lucas inserting characters is absolutely terrible and I smite you for even passing on that news! 🙂 That really is awful though, I hope its just some wild rumor. And I haven't heard much about Indiana Jones 4. All the news I receive on that comes in small bits for the Buzz Bin at www.movies.go.com, so meh. Lets hope Spielberg directs though, even though I think he also is starting to slip a little.

I dont know...saying Indiana Jones wont be directed by speilberg is like saying The hobbit wont be directed by peter jackson...I just dont think anyone else could do it the right way. Yes what lucas is doing to these films is horrible its like that south park episode. where stan and kile try to prevent lucas and speilberg from destroying raiders of the lost arc the episode is truly funny. But when directores go back and change things in a sense they are destroying bits and pieces of america. those movies no longer belong to them they belong to everyone of us fans. Any word on weather or not Peter jackson will direct the Hobbit or will some crack pot like michael Moore direct it.(Please excuse just saw farienheight 9/11) he does make alot of valid points in this movie but cant see how this movie is doing so well...any thoughts.
Originally posted by atwood2I was thinking about that South Park episode too, lol. That was definitely one of their best, at least for all the film buffs who watch their show, because obviously its so true. I still have no idea why Spielberg re-did "E.T." and released it, with the cellphones and the "hippie" remark. It just didn't make any sense to me.

On a different note though, I completely disagree with you about Michael Moore, but so far I've avoided all arguments about Fahrenheit 9/11 and I don't necessarilly want to start now, so meh, let's just call this one a draw. 🙄
