Are you sure that they are playing chess? Could it be that they are arguing about how to moderate the town bulletin board?

Something about the threads makes me think of rhp as an actually town, a small village out in the country, with all of the forum posters as the townsfolk. I can just see everyone down at the pub discussing this thing that happened involving Mr. Ivanhoe.
Walking through the village, I see the townsfolk, all at their work, or at leisure.
Ah, there i ...[text shortened]... singers.....

pick up the gauntlet please, and continue to people redhotpawnia :-)

I used to dream of creating a themed village, building houses where all the people were chess players. Each evening after work, we could all congregate and play over-the-board, go down to the pub and have a beer, or whatever. We would all intrinsically understand one another's fixation with this odd little game. Then I started playing in tournaments. And I realized that I don't want these frickin people as my neighbors!!!

So then, I later thought the same with EverQuest when I was hooked on it for a while. We could meet in the town hall at night, with its wall-to-wall computers and ultra high-speed network, and play our characters. But then, I ended up meeting some of them in real life and quickly scratched that off my list as well.

Sigh, but to dream...

In the middle of the village square is a huge chessboard with these great big pieces...the pawns are at least two feet high.

On one side of the village square is Sarah's Cookery...where you can get really good coffe and every imaginable kind of cookie and sit outside in the sun drinking coffee, eating cookies and playing chess and watching the game in the park....

I am at the beach just outside of town, alternating between watching my dog play and reading a chess book in the hopes of improving my chess game...

...maybe I should go to church instead and pray for a little angelic intervention...in my favor of course.....hmmmmm...

Heh. I can picture it now:
James standing in the center of town amking bad joes, with only 5 people in the crowd (and even these 5 are there only to avoid sarah's horrible, poisinos cookies)

There's James running about door to door placing flyers into everyone's mailbox. They read:

"Dear Occupant: Want to join my clan?"

Sadly, redhotpawnia's landfill is near capacity - filled to the brim with thousands of these discarded flyers. Protests run abound to stop the wasteful annoyance, but to no avail...
