I already suspect that born-again Christians and several other types dont believe that we (Christians) are REQUIRED to help the poor. They simply look at them with a combination of scorn and pity, then look the other way.

I thought they believed that they were required to help them, but were just hypocritical in their actions or contributed with a token gesture.

"Born again" has become synonymous with a certain style/type/persona of christianity often extreme in its behaviours and doctrines in the US. In the UK it is similar but a lot less in the extreme imo. Certain extreme attitudes and behaviours exhibited by these groups is one of the reasons I am not involved with organised religion.
I believe 'born again' is simply the term for the mechanic of a spiritual rebirth as explained by Jesus in the NT. E.I to be a genetic member of a family you have to be born into it.
