If thread creator closes a thread for the wrong reasons, objectors can nail their own colours to the mast by creating another thread.
In the past I've created threads which have deteriorated into unpleasantness, but even though I've tried to appeal the thread nastiness continues, wearing my name. It makes me reluctant to create new threads, which should be the lifeblood of ...[text shortened]...
It's only the ability to close our own thread we're talking about here, not any form of censorship.
Moderators do it when they feel it is needed, which doesn't happen a whole lot anymore.
