@drewnogal saidNo. The thread is owned by the contributors not the author of the OP.
Does anyone here think that the thread creator should have the right to have their thread closed? A reason being that the posts bear no reference to the OP and that the posts have descended into monotonous bickering?
We are able to do that in our local community Facebook hub.
@divegeester saidExcellent point, agree totally.

Do you think the author of the OP should continually harangue 'contributors' to stay 'on thread'?
@wolfe63 saidToo many mods already and now you want a thread creator to decide what posts stay and what posts get deleted?
Optimally better would be a thread creator's prerogative in editing/deleting abusive and/or irrelevant trolling.
But that would be a Moderator's nightmare.
Ya that's one way to have biased threads and reduce the amount of people who are posting 🙄
If thread creator closes a thread for the wrong reasons, objectors can nail their own colours to the mast by creating another thread.
In the past I've created threads which have deteriorated into unpleasantness, but even though I've tried to appeal the thread nastiness continues, wearing my name. It makes me reluctant to create new threads, which should be the lifeblood of every forum.
It's only the ability to close our own thread we're talking about here, not any form of censorship.
Sure, it's understandable to be able to close a thread you created but no thread creator should be able to delete other users posts.
But...
What happens when a thread creator posts something and then immediately closes it so his/her post is the only one seen/heard?
That would get annoying.
@drewnogal saidI believe that in the past posters who created a thread could have it closed, or at least request that it be closed. Ask Russ.

@drewnogal saidInteresting idea and I get the thinking behind it, but I would vote 'no' to this.

Thread creators can:
- Close threads
- Delete posts
- Remove red thumbs
- Add green thumbs
- Exclude posters deemed to not be “nice” enough, or who’s views they don’t approve of, or who have previously “eviscerated” or “character assassinated” someone they do approve of ...
Let’s just sterilise the place of all conflict, contrary opinion and spend every day talking about words which are like other words.
@divegeester saidI'd settle for on-topic contributions delivered with an improved civil tone.

Cookie-cutter trollism has become a repetitive bore.
But, I suppose attention addicts and malcontents will get their fix in anyway possible.
