Suzi, you may have finally identified the cause of this forum's gradual demise: "negativity" as the pervasive attitude.

All online forums have a mix of positive and negative attitudes resident within mature and immature contributors. It's highly unlikely that any online forum has remained viable for long with an imbalance skewed by negative/immature contributors...

Negativity is like a permanent crease on human being's forehead; its owner no longer recognizes it for what it is and the permanent crease goes wherever the person goes.

Why don't we get away from this idea that the topic makes the thread and just welcome any and all opinions on whatever the topic is?

It's the content that makes a good thread, not necessarily the topic.

Sahuaro made an interesting observation; I provide a venue for ideas. You disagree with him. Tomorrow's Monday, April 28.

I MUST step in and disavow you of this belief. Arizona has many good qualities. First of which is the sheer beauty of the desert landscape. The Grand Canyon. Low humidity. Very little snow, except in the higher elevations. Some of the best camping spots on this green earth. Ponderosa pines up near Payson. Awesome creek fishing out away from civilization. The Mogollon Rim country. An average of 300 sunny days a year (my estimate).

I'm fully on board with your estimate of the social regression and ignorance, though. Politically, this IS a wasteland. Our state legislature spends more time thinking up how to make us look like fools than actually running the state well.

I think Arizona as nice as it is, would be much better if it invaded Nevada and possibly Colorado. John McCain might be up for it. You could always ask.

I know some chessplayers read a lot but it may not necessarily be a topic many would appreciate.
