Anyone else battle a virus of late? I had some virus that was making TFTP files in my Windows/System32 dir.

The virus caused my computer to re-boot every 15 mins or so.

I spent the whole night fighting this thing and hope I got it... but I don't know if it was a friend who brought me a MUSIC disk on a rewritable CD yesterday or if I got it online....

Just wondering if anyone else has had any trouble... since this is where I hang most....

I hope things are ok now. However if you are either downloading music protected by copyright from file sharing sites or using CDR pirated copies then you may well deserve the odd virus. In this world you generally get what you (don't) pay for. Chess is a great and beautiful game but for me music offers so much more. I was once asked whether Chess was an art or a science. In my opinion it is a romance, I am unable to play when I am blue. But music is always there for me, whatever my mood there will be a complimentary soundtrack. For that I shall remain always grateful.

Hmm, now you mention it, yesterday my Windows XP did not start because a file in the Windows/system32 direction was corrupted, it's not quite likely to be a virus because I have Norton 2002 and run LiveUpdate every week, do you know some more about this thingie?

p.s. I installed Windows XP after the crash on another partition, so luckily I did not loose any of my work...πŸ™‚

We got a warning this morning about a virus called lovsan.worm which apparently causes the computer to crash every 10 or 15 minutes. Half of my lab have it. It puts a file called msblast.exe on your c: drive.

First off, Montagues... I love to pay for my music. I support bands though I do hate record companies.

The music my friend brought me was from his ban "New Rising Sun". But knowing the person who did bring it to me I can bet for sure he is the type of person to deserve the virus.

So here is a person that hates Napster and anything like it being hurt by a virus that you support. I didn't deserve this... Honest.

Hope your XP is hanging in there. Mine did crash one more time last night though it did not find anything this morning... I have a feeling it is still a mess someplace in my machine.

Varg
That is one of the guys I had, as well as Exploit-DcomRpc.

here it goes again... so my machine is still juiced! hope my work machine is ok!

No offence meant none taken
I don't support the virus or the virus author. My point was ,play with fire, risk getting burned. I am sure that all of the software/music you have downloaded is legal. You have just been unlucky with this virus

Yeah, just wanted to say I don't do the "Share Thing" online... The friend who gave me the Writable Cd does, I am sure as $%#&!

Geesh, it is bad enough the guy calls me every other day to see "What is up" and sticks around my NEW HOUSE for hours.... I just learned to tell him to get the heck out.

"Why?" he says.
"Cuz, I like my time alone"
"What you gonna do?"
"Enjoy my time alone"
"I wonder what I'm gonna do for the rest of the day..."
"I don't care"
"Give me a call, ok?"
"What ever... just go!"

Now he gave me a virus that beat the $&#&^ out of my computer and it is just one more reason to be annoyed with the guy.

Arg! I am at work and thank god this machine is ok.

It's oke now! (I hope)

I've red the warning as well, now what exactly do you have to download to prevent it from reaching your computer?

Breaking news!πŸ™‚

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe

It seems that it is likely to be one of the worst virusses ever, assuming that the rumours are true that all computers that have this virus (about 10,000) will atack the windowsupdate.com site at the sixteenth of this month!πŸ˜•

Olav

p.s. the url is a program from symantec (norton) to remove it!

p.p.s. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html
this site has all the info about it, read it carefully!

You silly Windows users and your never ending string of viruses. When are you going to learn that Mac OSX is ultimate operating system? You can still gain redemption. Turn a blind eye to Bill Gates and his demonic minions. Rebel against the system and buy a Mac.

I update my McAfee a lot, but I don't know how these 2 viruses got to me. I still can't get rid of it... and am at work now thinking about my poor poor machine at home.

I'm probably going to need to figure out how to boot into safe mode and find some file to erase... I am going to go read about the 2 viruses and see if there was something I missed.

I have shut off Auto System Restor, like they said... and cleaned the thing several times but I still got one more crash before I came to work. It Stinks. If so many people seem to be getting this perhaps by buddy didn't give it to me.

I'm just waiting for someone with a magic post to say "do this" and have the think "Make all better!"

I hate Mac.... But now I hate my computer at home.

Do you find there are programs your computer won't run? I need my 3d games and 3dMax and other programs I hear don't run on a Mac...

Is there times when you would like to get a program but it won't run on your Mac?? Keep me posted.
