Another Update....

This virus won't attack Macs.... it only affects computers.
😀

Looking forward to editing my registry as Poison Godmachine suggests this evening.

I did end up getting it at work, but now I can squish this thing in my sleep.

Schwing! Bugs Bunny tells me he got it also... so don't time him out!

It was very hard for me to fix, because every time I would log onto the internet, my computer would re-start in exactly 60 seconds! I knew the website where I had to download the patch, but it wouldn't download in about 50 seconds.. I finally got it worked out, though.

I had a couple "races against time" myself... I was just about done when the count down started.... so I saved what I had so far, printed screen to record how far I had got with what and saved the pic seconds before the machine went out.

It was rather fun, but I still want to see this virus joker do time if they can ever find out who he or she is.

You know, there's a way to extend the timer on the auto-shutdown, even when it's infected with something. I can't for the life of me remember how, though.

Circle the Earth like Superman would?

Or is it a Star Trek thing where you race towards the sun and slingshot back????

Keep me posted...

EDIT Almost ready to Edit my Registry and get back to you. This site was more help than any friend of mine, and I was the one helping all my friends who got it here in Rhode Island.

Thanks to everyone!!!!

There's a seperate MS patch for slowing down PC shutdown a 'little bit' to avoid cache errors with IDE hard disks. I suspect you mean something else though; its just a couple of seconds thing.

Yeah, I do mean something else. I understand it's a moot point now that people have patched their machines, but it's one of those things that bug you to death, you know?

I'll ask around at work tomorrow.

I messeed about in my Registry... but havn't found the program that activates the warning when I shut down.

I'll find it some time... for now I am happy to be online more than 20 minutes per shutdown.

It can come through a web site that has the virus, but I think since you didn't get it yet you will be fine. It will not be sent through some cable-dsl services... it will not get you if you run Milenium, Win98,95... or have a Mac.

It is cought easy by some ISP's before it gets to you... It will have a hard time getting you if you are all up-to-date with your virus scans and operating systems.

I got it at home, but not at work with XP. I probably updated my XP at work, but was too busy messing around at home to update.... That was too bad for me.

Good luck, there is more than enough info in this thread to fix it in no time if you do get it.

shutdown -a from the DOS prompt ( cd WINDOWS/system32 ) when the shutdown window appears and then that stops the computer being re-booted.

You can then get the patch downloaded from microsoft and enable or download a firewall.

Hope that helps

That's it! God, I've been tearing my hair out trying to remember what that was. Thanks, Mark!
