Originally posted by PalynkaLol, don't be so ridiculous. My opinion is that patriotism is distasteful. Because of this, I choose not to display a flag. It is not that the displaying of flags by people makes them either patriots, or distasteful.
No. It just happens that he holds all these faulty opinions and I can't help but correct him.
Unclench your fists, or at least your butt cheeks, before you burst a blood vessel.
Originally posted by PalynkaNo, I was making a link between my being against patriotism and displaying a flag. Someone need not be a patriot to display a flag, but those against patriotism are unlikely to do so.
You were not making a direct link between patriotism and display the flag on this website just a few posts ago?

Clearly you are not proud or even fond of your culture, heritage or current mailing address.
I like my local area, the people are friendly enough and there are things I enjoy there, but any sort of national identity seems silly to me.
Originally posted by StarrmanI doubt this is true. I hate patriotism, but still display a flag, although the one of my country of residence rather than my citizenship. But if those were the same, I might display the one of my citizenship, too. It's not like setting up a flag in your garden or something. I see it mostly as a practical thing, it can for example help when someone wants to organise a meet-up.

Originally posted by NordlysI suppose we'd need to take a survey of all anti-patriots here to find out. For practical reasons such as meetups I might inform people of my country, but personally I don't display my country because I think it alludes to some form of national support. I accept that not all flag bearers are patriots, nor are all anti-patriots bound to be against the use of flags.
