What is a "time out"?

When our children were young, it was anytime we were able to get a babysitter and head out for some “adult time”.🤔

I received a challenge from a low rated player a couple of years ago. We spent about 30 minutes playing 10 or so moves. The game was starting to get interesting but he clicked off and I thought no more about it.
Next day I was in work. It was about 21:00 when I came on here and saw that I had timed out and skull had been crushed. I had assumed that the challenge was the usual 3/7 days but it was in fact a 1 day challenge. Lesson learnt.
