Wow. You've given this a lot of though. I respect your idea and find your basis to be thoughtful. Please do not be offended if I tell you that I can't see God as being of any gender at all. 🙂

God, Godess, whatever, the important thing is what we as human beings do to each other. If these beliefs are so deeply held, how come Christians, Hindus, Muslims and atheists can commit exactly the same atrocities in the name of God or Reason? Maybe because the reason has nothing to do with religion.

LOL! You've done it again Sherlock Holmes!
bbarr, I want you to know that if ever I have thought of you as a "know it all", it is because sometimes I wonder what you DON'T know. 😀

If you want to make a case for Father Christmas do it in a positive way instead of trying to belittle people who did not have both the benifit of your education or your pie in the sky attitude.
Originally posted by missleadHmmm....well, I will agree that God is not "masculine" in the gender sense. I think God is neither masculine nor feminine, but rather is something much more that a gender cannot contain.
But think.
GOD loves life.
Male tendency is distructive.
GOD is giving,men are destroying.
GOD gave us birth.
GOD is our MOTHER.
Now, I don't want to go off into one of my Bible sermons again, but I would say that both man and woman are reflections of the creator in the sense of what the good qualities of either gender have to offer.
Originally posted by missleadI didn't mean to offend, but one ought give credit where credit is due. Anyway, I've no desire to defend 'Father Christmas', as I've posted elsewhere, I'm not sure of what the term 'God' is supposed to refer. Since I don't know what the term means, I'm hardly in a position to defend claims in which the term appears.
So that refutes it?

The 'evidence' that God was once thought of as female could be because when one religeon takes over from another, it often takes on aspects of that religeon at first. This is because the people don't suddenly change their ideas, even with a spear at their backs, so when Christianity took over from paganism it is natural that God should be seen as a female character as he was replacing Mother Earth. There are several other examples of this in the Christian faith, such as why is Christmas day on Dec 26th? This is thought to be because there was a Pagan winter festival on that date, so the date was kept but the theme changed.
I don't mean to offend anyone's beliefs in this, it's just something I've found interesting but I have no proof that it is true because I haven't researched it.
