Yes indeed. I think even a shortlist of CTU incompetence would be very long indeed, but just for starters I would have

(1) Allowing the wife of a CTU agent Stephen Saunders had murdered into his office to play with a sepia photograph of her dead husband, a mugshot plus open suspect file of Stephen Saunders and a .38 calibre pistol less than ten yards away from the debriefing zone.

(2) Putting what appear to be cinema commissionaires in charge of two major lockdowns in season one and season three. ("Miss Myers, I'm over here if you want to shoot me!" )

(3) Allowing Joe Wald's "maintenance men" into the building. They couldn't have acted more suspiciously if they'd been carrying three large wicker laundry baskets.

(4) In season three, they surround Stephen Saunders, who asks them whether they're not a little bit nervous about him releasing the Cordilla virus in every major city in the United States. They go in anyway: they may not be particularly good at fighting terrorists (four seasons, one two huge nuclear disasters, a thousand dead in the Chandler Plaza, two successful attacks on acting presidents and two major incidents involving moles), but they're never nervous.

(5) Edgar. How did he get past the interview panel? Did he use stealth mode or something?

CTU being incompetent is bad enough, but how can so much trouble keep finding one guy. I'm glad I'm not Jack's friend or family.

Angie88 works for CTU. Let me quote:

"I'm not sure who she is, but I know where she'll be on the 24th of December around 11 AM or so... how much will you pay for that information?"

But she's probably an al qaeda infiltrator, pretending to be a German with a US accent, dressed in a kilt, with tons of knowledge on core uranium and internet connections.

It's not often I agree with Chancre, but when it comes to his comments on Metallicrap, he's spot on.

Season 2 was the best by a mile. Season 4 was the worst so far.

I'm up to episode 5 of season 2. I watched the first season last month--although the content is not precisely innovative, the way it's put together is utterly compelling.

Well the show is made on the same basis as the Davinci code, isn't it.
Just constantly rushing around from one cliff hanger to the next.

In the Davinci code though, there is no space of character creation and in 24 everyone just gets shot.

However, I love 24 and Jack Bauer.
As I've stated before, the incompetence is astounding. The sheer number of infiltrators in that CTU is alarming at least.

I spend 20 minutes an episode shouting at the television screen.
and I'm in love with Chloe...

Season 4 is great. The amount of torture people are put through is incredible. It gives a warm gooey feeling just thinking about it.

The Da Vinci Code? Whilst I'm not a great fan of 24, at least it's well produced, the Da Vinci Code is the literary equivalent of rubbing cold, stale mashed potato into your skin.

What I'm saying (and I agree with you on the Davinci code, by the way) is that the same method of constant climaxing (STOP IT) is used in both that book and in 24.

24 would be crushingly tedious in written form.

True, although if it took you precisely 1 hour to read each chapter and they were only available for an hour's worth of time before the ink vanished, now that would be worth a go.
