Ah that’s what confused me; an altimeter is used for measuring a aircraft’s height not it’s level ie. Flat or climbing. I suppose level could be height as in level above ground. I had level and being flat as in spirit level 🙄

Building floors here are nowadays called levels, so I tend to think of it as a height thing rather than an angle thing. Maybe that's just aussie dialect.
