I grew up in St. Albans in Hertfordshire and there was some debate as to whether the Marshalswick Estate or the Cottonmill Estate was the roughest place to live ~ this is back in the 1970s, I can't speak for now. I'd say it was the Cottonmill Estate where I grew up and St. Julians comprehensive was its notorious gaol-like school. My path to the Catholic school I attended intersected with the main path for students heading for St. Julians. Seven years. Interesting times. It made me realize that under the skin of seemingly genteel middle England - with St. Albans being the epitome of that - there are invariably parts of any town that are ground down, despairing, passed over, and not so genteel.

Somerset, an idyllic county yet it is branded a 'dental desert' with patients in pain footing £1,100 bills by having private dentistry as the only option to self extractions.
@divegeester saidLooks like a poorly sourced article where the (worthless) adverts on that page are probably worth more than the article. No street cred, where is the science or data used?

@congruent saidIt's just an OP that tees up a casual conversation. We'll need scientists to help unknot your shorts, perhaps.

@congruent saidHave you got an address I can send the scientists to? Also, what kind of shorts are you wearing? Is the knotting green, amber or red status? Sounds like red to me.
Who is the OP? The author of this post or the writer on that website? Lisa Joyner is the Senior Digital Writer who it seems has got something on the side 🙂

@congruent saidSpray some cold water on where your shorts are constricting your scrotum. If that doesn't help, try sprinkling some fine flour.

@divegeester saidIn my family Slough caused a reverse-diaspora when an uncle and aunt settled there in the 1970s and procreated before skedaddling BACK to Ireland.
Slough, Berkshire
Was "The Slough Massive" for real?

Grow up FNF, you shouldn't be using profanity/cursing on the forum. Stick to the discussions rather than what you said at 11 Feb '24 11:24
