I played Kasparov years ago in a simul. Got killed in 20 moves.
This was right after he lost to Kramnick. I was only 1266 at the time.
No one else got a win, but my fellow CC aquaintence almost got a draw, and he was 1800+
Originally posted by Sicilian SmaugYep! I've had the same thing happen before. I once played Chessmaster on the highest level and tried to play it very seriously. I knew I'd get beaten most likely, but I played it anyway just to see how well I could do against it at that level (2650 rating or something). Well, I ended up with this weird position with a tunnel of pawns - looked like a tunnel completely. Somehow, some way I was able to push a passed pawn and Queen and there's nothing Chessmaster could do. It's the only time in my life I've ever beaten a grandmaster. lol But, I assure you I'm only a class player.
thats nothing, i beat a 2755(ICC rating not FIDE) GM on ICC a couple of months back, π Was in a scheveningen game where even though a rook for knight down i suddenla found all my pieces were in a perfect position for a series of devastating combos., Freak occurences can happen in the odd game here and there.. but well done anyway
Originally posted by GrandmousterThat's a good accomplishment, but 5/0 is only blitz. I'd be more impressed with a standard 1 hour and 20 minute game where you beat an international master OTB. I doubt he was also playing with all of his potential. When people play on the internet, they do not play like they do in OTB. I know I don't.
I have a few games in my ICC Library, with wins against FM's & IM's.
No wins yet against GM's
Heres a 5 min games against an IM

Cheap win on time...but what the heck..π
Originally posted by powershakerNo way, a win is a win. Some positions just take forever to defeat. A GM beating you in a sicilian would probably be quicker then say a Nizmo or Bogo where there are lots of pawn moves and the game is more positional.
I wonder if it's true what they say: that if you can last 20+ moves with a grandmaster, then you are a fairly decent player.

I've played over 6000 games of Blitz on Yahoo. Look me up under this name if you want. When I do play and no fool around, I usually can hit 1700 with not much difficulty. But, I'm not a 1900+ Blitz player like you say you are, Mr. Mouse. I have found that blitz has hurt my precision in standard play, so I don't play much of it any longer. If you move as quickly and by instinct as you do in Blitz, you will never get truly strong in OTB. It's a fact. Not many of us are talented as Bobby Fischer who could play quick chess and fast chess and not have it be to the detriment of his standard OTB games against GMs.

Originally posted by RahimKYep, he is probably as great as Fischer was in Blitz. But, I just have to wonder if Anand could have been FIDE World Champion in 2005 if he had never played Blitz. It makes you wonder. I think Blitz is the death of pure chess art. If someone can play at a 1900 Blitz level, they should certainly be able to have a 2000-2100 (200 points better) standard OTB rating. But, as you can see, Grandmouse has nothing to offer on this point. Of course, 1900 Blitz players have often been rated at 1300,1400, 1500 OTB ratings? I knew of a guy who had a 1300 OTB rating and had an 1800 BLITZ rating. Why? It's all tactical psych-outs, and manhandling the board... trying to throw your opponent into complications so that he will lose on time not by skill. Where is the talent there? It is true that fast chess players often have an innate ability to be great OTB players. However, it's sad that many people - who may have been a challenger for the world's highest honors in chess - will never make it to the party because of their insane addiction to blitz chess. Oh! Grandmouster, I see you've finally made a move in your lost game to me. Hurry up! I need those points, New York. hehe
