I would enjoy a real chess thread about theory, openings, tactics, etc once is a while, but you have made it impossible. No strong player would ever want to post now.

oooh right, the guy who claimed a game of chess was a homosexual sex act? hahah, yeah, that was priceless. the history psychoanalysis is just pure lulz all the way...
(I was hoping to learn something about Carlsen from this thread ...)
Originally posted by Bosse de NageI don't think Zizek has shown anything like that, he is a hardcore lacanian himself. Even if he attempted to do such thing, the theory of psychoanalysis is too strong to be refuted with easy remarks. However, in my opinion Fine's work is rubbish nevertheless. π

Hi PP.
Fine left us some good games and his book on the Middle Game is
an instructive and pleasant read - highly praised by Purdy.
Never really went near his Basic Endings - horrible looking book,
it was like trying to read treacle. Though I know it has it's followers.
But agree his writings about the inner chess player and what went on
in a players head etc etc...Rubbish is a good word PP
Learn something about Carlsen.?
He is a gifted player so a very dangerous role model. (as was Tal).
We can hope to play like them, but can't.
Best just to marvel at their games and be glad you know the game fo chess.

I understand Tal was dangerous as a role model, the guy couldn't stop chasing girls and drinking vodka π. But Carlsen, why is he dangerous? He works hard, plays sports, seems like a pretty decent fellow for the time being, doesn't have the crazy eye, what is wrong with him?
Originally posted by philidor positionI think he means that we can't copy his style because of our lack of talent, and that trying to play like carlsen would thus be detrimental to your chess.

Originally posted by wormwoodOh that makes sense. π I do try to adopt Kramnik's openings though, I hope nothing bad will happen to me π

Originally posted by wormwoodLol, if Kramnik can bear being himself, I can take being a fan π

WW has it right - that's what I meant.
I cannot put my finger on Carlsen at all. (I'm in good company).
Other players you can sometimes get an idea of what they up to
and you see what happens if such and such move was played.
But Carlsen? Sometimes he is playing a differentt game.
You look for sign posts and hints and suddenly realise
just how naff you are and you are not really learning anything
just playing over the game like a stunned rabbit.
Of course I flounder with Kramnik and Anand etc. but one can
try to adopt their openings and plans. At least try to.
They play a good game of chess and there are things a player
even of how standard can see and understand.
You get Ah-Ah moments when it all clicks.
"What is he up to now?" is my war cry when I play over
some of Carlsen's games.
Carlsen is a very hard player to emulate. The gifted ones always are.
Edit 1: Stick with Morphy, him I can do (sometimes.)
