Who said that anyone in the top 16 would willingly participate in such a tournament? None of them are obligated to prove themselves or anything...

No - it isn't.
Out of top-16 only 4 are playing in 2005 championship:
1. IronMan 31
<...>
3. David Tebb
<...>
9. Weyerstrass
<...>
12. fernando JPVasquez
............................................................................................................
Anyway - there is some analogy with current Roland Garros, when IronMan is Federer and Weyerstrass is Rafael Nadal
For the record they are:-
Ironman31, David Tebb, In His Name, Meman, Weyerstrass, Baca, Fernando JP Vasquez, Northern Lad, Nicohuyboom.
I think a tournament for the top 16 (or possibly 20) players is a nice idea, but nobody should be forced to play in such a tournament.
Originally posted by David TebbYea I agree with you no one should be forced to play in it but, still would be nice to have alot of participation from the top 16 or 20. Can anyone organize a tournament like this?

For the record, here are the 2 games Ironman has lost :
Game 502661 vs. hungtn - 46 moves, IM31 resigned a couple of moves from being mated.
Game 661930 vs. Akizy 21 moves - IM31 resigned, but I've not played this out to see exactly why... King was certainly coming under some pressure...
I noticed that Ironman31 had lost only lost 2 games, in more that 1,000 played, so I posted an inquiry on the following thread, asking if anyone knew which two opponents had beaten him
:

gjr was kind enough to link to these two games....
Ironman played Black in both games....
If anyone were to publish a book entilted "How To Beat Ironman31", it would be a very thin book, indeed...
Originally posted by David TebbHow is that possible? The first round hasn't finished yet and there is a list of all participants: only 4 and not 9 began it.

Of the sites very best players, the 2005 championship has:
Ironman31, David Tebb, In His Name, Meman, Baca, Fernando JP Vasquez, Northern Lad, Nicohuyboom (ThePO, Duhian (, TRACKHEAD21, SteveC)).
it is a shame weyerstrass is not in ... it does seem that we have a rising star here.

Akizy is catching up with Ironman he now has 2401 while ironman has 2452. I think if the ratings stay stagnate in the top ten Akizy will eventually catch up to him without alot of effort. What do you guys think?
1/ play only players stably rated over 2100 and take a long time to calculate every move ... either akizy or ironman will hit a massive high - perhaps over 2800.
2/ play anyone and everyone ... play fast ... play many many games ... and they will both hover araound 2400-2500 from occasional catastrophic draws against strong underrated players and mouseslips.
