I am new here, and not playing at my best.

But I was just in a game where I had a Rook, Queen, and my King. And the other player had only a King. Now I KNOW I should have check-mated sooner, but I was getting him in a corner and then....GAME DRAWN!

Is there a move limit on games once the other player is down to a king? I'm confused!

Yup, that would be a stalemate.

That's a stalemate, mate. If you don't have the king in check and the king, or any other of the opponants pieces, can't move, then it is a stalemate.

Ohhhhhhhhh.........!!!!!!

I completely forgot about stalemate. You are right. I thought I was winning the game by making him in a position where no matter where he went he was in check, but that's not good. I should have waited for the checkmate.

I really havn't played in a long time and it shows. haha...Thanks everyone for answering.

Just so I'm clear, there is not move limit on this site. It goes on until someone wins, resigns, or draws, is this correct?

Okay how did you do that? I was going to do that and I couldn't figure it out!

And forgive my friends name, he's a bit immature. I'll never live down the fact that I couldn't beat him. This game is a bit embarrassing to watch as he and I both pretty much suck. If you guys need a laugh you should check it out!

That's right, unless one player exceeds the given time, then the other player can claim a win by timeout - no matter who is winning at the time.
Okay good to know. Thanks.

Under the posting box there are 3 hyperlinks you can click on to insert something into your post.
1). Smiley
2). Link to game which is the one I used, just copy and paste the game number in the box that opens.

If there are 50 consecutive moves without a capture or a pawn move then it is a draw.
