Im normally a very slow positional player but I have an OTB game where I won in 17 moves against an 1800+ player. One of my best OTB games so far.
I played as black:
1.c4 - Nf6
2.nc3 - g6
3.g3 - Bg7
4.bg2 - 0-0
5.d4 - d6
6.nf3 - nbd7
7.0-0 - e5
8.bg5 - exd4
9.nxd4 - h6
10.bc1 - a5
11.b3 - nc5
12.bb2 - re8
13.Qc2 - Qe7
14.Rad1 - Nce4
15.Rfe1? - Nxf2!
16.Rd2 - Qe3
17.Kf1 - N2g4
0 - 1
it would have been more beautiful if he had played 16. Kxf2 - Qe3+ 17.Kf1 - Ng4...
This is the shortest mate possible but one must play the right moves so the other can mate so you need a really cooperative opponent to do this.
1. f3 e5 2. g4 Qh4++ mate. = Fool's Mate
and these are other mates I know .
1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Bc5 3. Qh5 Nc6 4. Qxf7++ mate.
1. d4 f5 (Note : This one is tricky , and it's not a beginner's one)(Dutch Defence)
2. Bg5 h6 3. Bh4 (Black thinks he has White's bishop , 3... g5 4. Bg3 f4) 3... g5 4. e3! (4...gxh4 5.Qh5++ mate) 4... Nf6 5. Bg3 and the bishop is saved.
I also know a really weird one that looks like a Smothered Mate.
1. e4 a6
2. Bc4 a5
3. Nf3 a4
4. Ng5 b6
5. Bxf7++ mate
and I know many more.
Originally posted by SicilianNajdorfcheers for those dude. i have seen these and other quickies written down before, but i started the thread to see how many of these quick mates work in real games. I know that "fools" is very unlikely to work in real game situation. Even though someone did get me with it years ago (when i was just starting out) i know id never fall for it again.

I'm glad I started this thread because im getting to see that even good players (at least by my standard) do fall for the occasional 10-12 move mate or whatever and it will maybe turn out to be a very good "what not to do" guide for beginners lol.

This must be the one you mean - nasty stuff this opening with bishop/queen attack - loads of these posts appear to be due to this opening but when i try it it end up getting my @$$ kicked - maybe im playing the wrong ppl huh lol
Originally posted by MCAIt's a crappy opening, I don't use it against anybody rated above 1100, and not against people I've played before who've evaded it. If your opponent doesn't fall for it, your queen's in the open, and I'm told it's bad to bring the queen out before move 4 or 6 or something.

I play ok with it, but I've stopped using it so much because I went up one rating band and people are less likely to fall for it 😕
... do I sound like I know what I'm talking about? 😛
