I am quite fed up with this excuse for a tactics trainer. I have come across many problems that penalize you for playing an equally good move and just recently I bumped into this one.
According to CT-art this is white to move and win. I agonized for hours over this trying to find a win for white when I decided there isn't. If anybody can show me a white win then I will write a letter of apology to GM Blokh himself.
Originally posted by heinzkatThe programs answer is 1.Bxe5 Rxe5 2.Qxe5 Qxe5 and I'm sure you know the rest. But 1...Rxe5?? After 1...Qg6 white doesn't have anything that I can find. This looks like a loss for white to me.
Also what is the actual answer the program gives? I suppose it is just 1. Bxe5 Rxe5 2. Qxe5 Qg6 3. Qxg7 1-0

Or maybe I am a tard. 😞 It looks like white can win both of Blacks Bs and then the Q etc etc

Assuming you mean ...Ne7 instead of Nd7:

I don't like this puzzle, it's too 'dirty'.
No good at all for instruction, it will frustrate the solver.
Was the puzzle part of section on obstrustion, removing the guard
or Bishop & Rook Mating patterns?
Have you searched a DB to see if it's from a game?
Search for the Qf6,Bg7 & Bh7 set up.
I have a strong 'gut' feeling the position is wrong.
Black is a piece up.
Remove the g7 Bishop and it works a treat
(If from a game I bet it was swapped on c3 for a Knght and White
took back with Bishop - pawn structure indicates it may have been an English).
Sometimes getting these things to work is almost as much fun as
solving them.
Edit: I think the idea is a double take on e5 and then Bc6+ mating.

Maybe you are correct about the position being wrong. I don't know what the motif of the problem was, I was doing it by degree of difficulty starting from the easiest to the hardest but I think it has to do with discovered attacks as the few leading up to this one were. It is a 40 out of 90.
They give credit to the original players of the game if it came from a game. They didn't in this case. (and even if it is only similar they say "similar to []"😉
Yeah, I know, it's still messy.
Did you search a DB - was it part of any section?
Edit:
Forgot to mention - in the posted Heinz variation instead on Ne7
Black has Be4 - it's all clatty. too many branches and if's and buts.
If it's correct it's a bad puzzle.
Think idea is to lure Black away from c6 so Bxc6+ works.
Here are 12 puzzles I set the guys in Bates Motel.
All are good.
12 Tatctical puzzles for you to have a go at.
Some are tough, some are easy.
You should set them up on a board and try to figure them out
in your head. If you get stuck and only if you get stuck.
Move the bits about and try things.
Don't be down hearted if it does not come right away.
Stay with it, you will see the idea and then you will find the moves.
The pleasure you get from solving one of these will be as good
as the pleasure you get from winning a game.
The patterns and ideas you pick up from the tactical problems
will serve you well in the future.
I have the solutions 'hidden' but don't look until you have solved them.
In all cases it is White to Play and Win
(Remember to find and play the best defensive moves for Black.)

Remember to play the best defensive moves for Black.
