Yeah, I know, it's still messy.

Did you search a DB - was it part of any section?

Edit:
Forgot to mention - in the posted Heinz variation instead on Ne7
Black has Be4 - it's all clatty. too many branches and if's and buts.
If it's correct it's a bad puzzle.

Think idea is to lure Black away from c6 so Bxc6+ works.
Yes, first thing I saw was Bxc6+ I just couldn't make it work. But if the bishop on g7 wasn't there it would be different like you said.

Them 12 puzzles I posted will keep you busy and they are good.
Hand picked for their instructive value and I never ask the Bates Motel
to do anything I have not done.

Any source game for the last puzzle's position? I was just looking for it yesterday. (The nicest variation is 1. Qd8+ Qe8 2. Rxh5!!)

Hi

Makow - Washenin, Nowsibirk, 1976.

All I have is that - no games details and cannot telll you where it
came from. (the source of the puzzle).

Ages I surfed the net lifting all the free 'combination' downloads and
burned them onto a CD in a net cafe. (I was not on the net then)
I took them home and merged the lot into on big DB and then
then deleted all the notes. ( a lot were in a foriegn language).

I then 'sorted' them all into move order (lowest first), and then
worked my way through them.

Of course I never got through them all but every and now and then
I see this DB and knock off a few more.

The first position of this thread is dirty indeed after Be4 Qxf7, not sure what to think of it; I didn't have the exact position when going through the variation ... Qb1+ Bf1 ... Be4. In all cases though, 1. Bxe5 is the move that must be played. (what else?)

Apparently we have the same sources (Spanish & German PGNs), I hoped you got it from a tactics book. I also found somewhere the names written as Makov - Vazentin, that's why I asked.

According to CT-art this is white to move and win. I agonized for hours over this trying to find a win for . If anybody can show me a white win then I will write a letter of apology to GM Blokh himself.
Fritz 11 gives the following as best play from both with a score in the final position of just over +2.0
1. Bxe5 Qg6 2. Qf3 Qb1+ 3. Bf1 Be4 4. Qxf7 Bg6 5. Qxg7 Bf5 6. g4 Bxd7 7. Qxd7 Qg6 8. f4 Qe6 9. Qxe6 Rxe6 10. h4

Conclusion; CT-Art 3.0 is not faulty in this case.
