i find that losing can be depressing but its a real upper when you can spot the error in your game come back and play that line better. nobody plays perfect not even kasparov!! everyone loses games and everyone has to come back somehow. have fun and when you lose sure it can be devastating but after you learn what you did wrong just make sure you dont make the same mistake twice.

I read all of the messages posted in this thread and was amazed at how good they are! Yeah, lots of good advice here.

So the only thing I can contribute is my philosophy about playing. I think it's important and encourage all my clan members to use it. Here's what it is:

When you have a lost game, RESIGN!
Now I don't want a lot of people to post replies like, "How do you know it's lost" and/or "It's not lost till you lose it". I think you and everyone else knows what I am talking about. Let me give you the reasons behind my thinking.

When you are losing a game or even several games, it works on your mind. Instead of logging in to RHP to feel happy about your games you are logging in with your subconscious knowing that you are losing.

Our feelings are directly related to our thinking. Our thinking is directly related to our stored knowledge, experience and subconscious mind.

People who are losing a game know they are losing and it works on them... It's not a fun thing to log in to 'resume play in their losing position', it's a responsibility.

A person should not subject themselves to negative energy, especially if it makes them feel bad. Guess what most of my clan members do (those who take my advice)? They log in to play games that are either equal or games that they are winning! Can you imagine how great this makes a person feel!?

Yes, dump all lost positions and move on. You'll feel better about yourself and have more fun here too.

Of course if you are going to do that make sure it's lost first: Game 3386355 😞

I agree. My idea of a "lost game" is one where a person is down 2 pawns or more in material without any compensation or possibility of attack.

Of course there are exceptions (bishops of opposite color and stuff) but let's not get into that. 😕

I've actually woke up from a sound sleep realizing, "OMG! I dropped a pawn!"

Now I'm sure many people would feel that I'm stretching the truth here, but it's true. I've had some problems in the past dreaming about chess positions in my sleep and sometimes my subconscious mind realized a blunder and woke me up. Since I've started removing all losses I don't have that problem anymore.

my high school chess coach's favorite saying was 'there is no greater teacher of humility then chess'

the more I play chess the more I realize how right he was, and yes the only reason i'm posting in this thread is because I just blew two end games in which I had winning position/material.

I have decided that more games is the answer. Doing poorly in one? ignore it and play a game you're winning. Bored? Play more chess! One should never have to wait to be able to move.

When I'm in bad form, I just take a break from playing actual games and just do the Chess Tactics Server.

yes, i agree, just like the the regular season a good team can sweep a bad team but wins result in more testosterone production that can carried on to the next series.

chess is way more mental than baseball so having the choice of when to play these games is good

I've lost many times previously. The positive is, it's a learning experience.
